So, when you were younger (or even now), who did you idolize?
Who did you want to be when you grew up...did you meet them
    ...did you get their autograph?
Go wider than Rovers/City if you wish. Who still brings a smile to your
face when you daydream about sporting days of yore?
    Me...I'll start with three:
    * Derek Randall - cricket with a smile, and he really annoyed the Aussies!
    * Alfie Biggs - you could have a character, be the bloke next door, and still
    score for fun
*Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali - sport had never seen anyone like him. I'm not
a huge fan of boxing, but this man was hypnotic. Bigger than boxing.

    Eh P49?

Surely a man of your advanced years would have WG Grace, Gentleman Jim and Stan Mortensen as your heroes!! <whistle>

Mine would be Ian Botham - I'll never forget running into the kitchen to tell my mum - 'he's creaming the Aussies around the ground - we're back in with a chance!' during his fabulous 145 against Australia in 1981.

    and

Konrad Bartelski - I'm a mad keen skier. Konrad came within 0.11 secs of winning a downhill World Cup race in Italy back in 1982 - it's still the highest finish ever by a British downhill skier.
