I think remy knew the deal when he signed. He is the second choice forward until diego costa stops scoring. There's no more to it...

also the risk is relative, esp. when nobody really knows the extent of the injury, which to be fair hasn't hampered him too much has it?

That's it in a nutshell! I'm sure if there was a real risk he wouldn't be playing!

Nice goal from Matic! Let's hope we keep it going in the second half!

True, but my gosh schurrle needs to fix his finishing.

He has so much potential, but every game its the same thing: he could have had a hattrick already!

So, awful finishing or great goal keeping?

Very disappointed Costa stayed on for the 90, and even started to be honest. I pray he doesn't go on internationals after Arsenal.

Hackles still up at end even after the win. Angry at how guileless we were against a clueless defence.

That was my worry as well. Against this kind of defence Remy had a better chance.

Should go with 2 strikers in these kind of games. After all Remy would have bagged one of the chances Schurrle had.

    This !

Our attack today was one paced with the same pattern - run hard and strike it low. No change and Rui had little to guess.

We're creating, which is the important thing.

Yeah schurrle should have got one, yeah a few others should have went in...

Finishing will improve, though. Already we are seing an improvemnet over last years attack.

We won the game, we were solid. We did do well.

not the end of the world stuff IMO

Our conversions this year so far versus shots is very poor. However, we're still getting the results, so let's be thankful!

Got to start sticking these chances away! Quite literally could've scored at least 6 tonight.

Strange game for mine, we really should have put away a handful and it wasn't just Schurrle, though he couldn't hit Mt Everest with a shotgun tonight poor bugger. Oscar blew one, Costa I thought would score 1 on 1. Maybe we should just say the Porto goalie was brilliant, he stopped everything humanly possible. That said, I always felt we had the stopping of Porto despite them playing better 2nd half. Great attacking display from us, exciting game to watch, goal practice required this week, and Costa needs to get 100% fit, so a rest please Jose.

    <ok>

This is what I am concerned about, we know that there are no problems scoring goals this season, we could easily have won that game 5-0, it just didnt come off for us, but the main thing is we got the 3 points and kept a clean sheet.
Defence is my main concern at the moment, as we seem to have let it slip somewhat, though if Jose in charge, and knowing how much of a stickler he is for good defensive play, I have every confidence it will fix itself.

My personal opinion from watching us play so far this season is this.....

Our CB's are not the quickest, and until this season we played counter attacking football, which meant our defenders were used to having the play in front of them, as the opposition tried to start build up play, and our defenders, being so good positionally, were able to block the play until Matic or whoever stole the ball and we launched a counter.

Now, WE are the ones attacking, and getting hit on the counter, which means the defenders are going 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 against players and dont have the pace to keep up.
It was plain as day against Schalke, everytime they run at the defence on the counter, our CB's would go deeper and deeper, afraid of committing to a challenge, lest they be left with egg on their faces. I think it is just that the team is playing in a style JT and Cahill aren't used to.

Never mind Terry, even without scoring, Nemanja Matic was outstanding. Broke up everything in the middle, and drove forward well. In Europe, when the big games come along and the big game pressure is on, I am glad we have the likes of Matic, Costa and Filipe Luis in our ranks this year.

We've probably played in first or second gear so far, when we go up into top gear we will be frightening. And if Costa puts that early chance away, it's probably game over as the keeper grew in confidence from the save. Nice to see Jose congratulate Patricio after the game. Does he want to take over Cech next year as an understudy.

Good call for mine, the CDs have done very well this year despite lack of speed. It will need looking at though and the odd playing with a different back 4 for certain games. However I have to agree with LOECW, Terry has played very well as has Cahill. Hope they keep it up all year.

Long term we will bring quicker CBs through like Zouma. You can't leave Terry and Cahill exposed v pace when playing a higher line

Agreed. Liking the look of Zouma, a lot. And I rarely get excited over youth (At least not male footballing youths anyway :p).

But he will be a good'un I can feel it.
