While browsing the internet during my lunch break, I came across this http://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/...-clubs-incorporate-sponsorship-in-their-name- For anybody who can't be bothered to read the article, it basically says that clubs could look to change their name to incorporate a sponsor as a way of earning some extra money. I now throw open the floor to all thoughts, arguments, counter claims and random accusations.
Wonderful. Immediately thought of TNS, PSV and Red Bull Salzburg/NYRB. It'd be absurd though - even in America where sponsorship is all over the place, they don't have it in team names (except, of course, New York Red Bull).
If the Kroger Co. chose to co-sponsor our shirts they would use their abbreviated logo KR. Think about it.
I was sent a petition email by 38 Degrees today. It appears that Olympic sponsors MacDonalds, Coco-Cola, Addidas, etc... will have the option of taking up huge tax breaks for the course of the Olympics. There are also a couple of companies who I wouldn't mind so much, but I noted that none of the sponsors were British, which was shocking, but I suppose it shouldn't be. BTW, if I had a choice of sponsors, MacDonalds and Coca-Cola would certainly not be in that preferred list. What possible connection they could have with the Olympics is beyond me.
It's because they're willing to pay and the reason they're willing to pay is because it fits in with their corporate social responsbility. Essentially McDonalds and Coca Cola are seen as making kids unhealthy so by sponsoring the Olympics they can turn around and say "But wait, we're supporting sport!" in an attempt to change people's perceptions of them. Also, I get e-mails from 38 degrees as well! Personally I'd have no problem for the Park being sponsored, particularly if it keeps most of the original name.
