I think the River end terrace WAS safe terracing. There were no high fences at the front, There were no caged sections built into the stand that restricted the movement of people if an area became too full. The entrances were halfway up the terrace which stopped to possibility of constant pressure from the back towards the front. It is also a concrete stand which vastly reduces the fire risk. I saw no issues with it personally.

The Barclay had to go though. I would love the PL to allow safe terracing. There is no reason I can think of why the lower Barclay and Lower River End could not revert. Would be great to see imo.

i fear it won't happen in this country because of the general misunderstanding surrounding the hillsborough disaster but i would love a safe standing area in the barclay like those in modern german stadia

I agree. We could draw the line at flares and firecrackers, but properly stewarded standing areas are brilliant for those passionate about getting behind their team <ok>

i feel it would draw a number of fans back to their clubs who may have found it too expensive or lost their love of football because of the crazy wages etc. you'd easily get more people through the gate, could charge slightly less for the tickets, and probably get a better atmosphere. for me its a no brainer but as i state above, because some people believe that somehow 'standing' was the reason people lost their lives rather than poor policing, poor quality of stadia, fencing and terrible organisation amongst others, it won't ever come back to this country, and thats a massive shame

I'd like to see the photo from the original post, all I get is a bloody gmail sign up page. Maybe we could start a thread with all the old pictures of NCFC grounds/fans. That would be great.

We are all assuming that the "it will make football cheaper" brigade will be correct. Only if the clubs attract MORE than who currently sit in those seats. May well be that City could increase their capacity without further building and the natural disruption and loss of income. But I don't see it increasing the gates at Wigan etc.
I would love terrracing to come back at one end. In fact I used to love open terracing. Nothing better than the second half half of a winter game on the terrace. But I don't think the clubs or politicians want it.
