im watching chelsea v everton and the camera focused on tim cahill who decided to have a gob on the floor, normal see it every game.
an hour ago i was watching espn new, and it was about tiger woods playing in dubai, while on the green he decided to have a good old gob on the floor, and was ripped apart for it, in fact he was labelled as GOT NO CLASS,
so where do the double standard come in, both televised with milions watching, both highly paid, where does it become acceptable for one and not the other,
at least they are not like that beast el hadj diouf, sadly once of safc

no team won anything without a dodgy keeper. sir bobby robson

<doh>Me Mam ....Bless her was a school nurse ...she told stories about all the individuals she had to look after....once it was this little lass with poor respiratory function....her first task in the morning ...was to race across the playground take the lassie away and gently and continuously pat her on the back to relieve congestion.... I played centre half and centre forward and spat for England...Now when you think of all the percussion involved in Football from tackles, clambering over each others bodies ,heading...not to mention the physical effort of turning at high speed....theres no wonder about gobbing in football...even with fantastic athletes who never touch mucus producing dairy foods!....and I suppose this makes it more acceptable
Incidentally I once heard this topic discussed on something like Question time...and hilariously...some blue rinsed lady pronounced on it in debate....her arguments rose to a crescendo ....and with a practised flourish which so many of them seem to have she shrieked....." theres absolutely no need for it ...and it should be banned!"....evreybody clapped....

Golfers dont run, mucus builds up, if you suppress the spitting out of the garbage built up in your lungs, you will have serious problems.
read a medical thing years ago, dont remember exactly. but every football team on earth, and I mean every......spits.
Tiger Woods might have had a cold, or pissed off cos he dont play THE REAL GAME,

I can put up with it in the beautiful game because it comes from good working class roots, or the back of the throat, whichever is closest.

Golf with its rules and etiquette is different, leaving big sticky obstacles on the green for your fellow competitors to try to put around is not in line with how golf is marketed.

safc73 and billofengland, both right for me - golf is a sport with upper class etiquette and decorum, and you don't exert yourself much. football - working class routes, lots of running so you need to deal with all the crap that comes out of your lungs - you'd be sick if you swallowed it all.

I did 25 years inthe Navy where spitting is a punishable offence and I consider spitting in public places to be a sign of the general demise of standards in this country. Would you like to pick your golf ball out of the hole and find it has a load of snot stuck to it?
