Sad news that the hugely talented but unlucky horse Spirit Son has been put down in his home Greatwood! Such a shame, he was plagued with injury but the form of his SN hurdle was outstanding with Cue Card and Sprinter Sacre behind him and only Al Ferof in front! In my eyes would have deniably been a champion hurdler! RIP
Cigar has also passed away - one who, unlike Spirit Son, was able to fulfill his potential by winning the inaugral Dubai World Cup.
Very sad news on both counts. I was lucky enough to see Cigar at the Kentucky Horse Park 9 years ago, he exuded presence and class. For those that did not see it first time round, here is a link to the thread detailing Spirit Son's injury and recovery from a few years ago.
Two wonderful animals famous for very differing reasons. What Spirit Son did to Cue Card at Aintree was frightening. An undoubted Champion Hurdle future star and would now have been at his peak. Cigar was before my time so I will read up tonight R.I.P both
