I've just seen the eye-watering fee that Liverpool are prepared to pay for Jordan Henderson. Just how comprehensively were we screwed when Jonjo left? No use whining now, of course, but it does make you wonder how he was allowed to leave for such a pitiful sum.
Very different deals at thend of it. Yes Jonjo was cheap, but he hadnt played a season and a half at prem level with England caps and a club in the position with bargaining power. Get your point though
Ben, I honestly think Jonjo's the better player, he's a player who makes things happen the moment he steps on the pitch - the two Sunderland supporters at work today were virtually speechless with disbelief today that Liverpool were prepared to part with this bloated fee. Significantly, neither were the slightest bit worried that he was going. Lovely quote from Niall Quinn on his departure BTW, well worth reading.
Think there were 2 periods of maybe 4 - 6 games (once mid season - then again before the transfer was officially announced) when he didn't make the starting line up Was never completely sure if he was dropped due to bad form ... or if those Scousers put a bit of pressure on us not to play him in case he got injured
If you buy your cornflakes from Harrods food counter you will pay more than if you buy the same corn flakes from Aldi. At the present moment we are just about Aldi, at the time of the jonjo sale we were the guys selling stuff on the street corner desparate to survive. Yes we got legged over but we lived to fight another day.
