Spero is keeping Adam out of the team, which has produced good results. he works well with gerrard and we know he plays well with lucas. just posting this to say well do lad. and i cannot wait to see what next season brings with lucas back.
Yeah will be interesting to see. Great he is getting the chance, and keeping Adam out is always a plus!
Can't wait to see the revival of the Spucas partnership. As long as Adam is kept off the bench for the time being I am happy.
I don't think we need Spearing and Lucas playing together. They are both too similar to one another and they lack creativity. Lucas and Spearing are DM's - they need a Gerrard or Adam type player to compliment them.
Adam doesn't compliment, he made work harder for Lucas when he was playing and more so with Spero. We were scoring freely when they played together last season.
Sorry, I didn't mean Adam per se but a player who can carry the ball forward and play freely. I've just been looking through the results and team line up at the end of last season - and you are right! I stand corrected ...
You are thinking of 4-4-2, which I don't think will work for Liverpool, in this day and age. Wingers do not work against well marshalled defences, just look at Stoke, you get nothing from Stoke from swinging in passes from the wings, both our goals came from running at them from head on, and that is what you need to do to score goals. The days of having a big target man like Carroll are numbered, with the increased height of the central defending pair. To counteract the towering central defender, you need the small, fast poaching attacker, like Suarez. We need Rush/Dalglish, not Toshack/Keegan. For me, we need two holding midfield with adventurous fullbacks or wingbacks as they call them. Them with two advancing mids, plus two up front, we could rip defences apart.
Good points - I was thinking more along the lines of the Alonso/Mascherano partnership where one was the creator and the other was the defender. I do agree that we need two holding midfielders and that is definately the way forward but they need to have different attributes IMO.
I also agree that 4-4-2 is far too outdated, and crossing for Carroll is not simply not our style. He does not fit our style of play and never will IMO. He is a good player but not the right player for us. I was watching the highlights of the Newcastle match and they have Demba Ba and Cisse - strong, fast, technical players. You only have to see Cisse's goal when he gets in front of his defender. Great movement. This is the sort of player we need to lead the line.
i agree with noble. directness is always great. Watched the 1988 team recently, was that 442? nominally maybe but barnes was my hero and he played with pace and directness. I do think there is always a place for the big CF, whether that place is playing for stoke OR coming on and playing european teams is a moot point. BIg target men like llorente exist in europe. I think saying we need rush/dalglish is exactly right, it was called torres/gerrard. I think a top quality pacy player like torres and rush who can finish that well are as rare as hens teeth. what noble is saying is right, once you remove carragher you find two CBS in skertl and agger who can play a higer line and cope with pace. That instantly allows those full backs a better starting point. Hopefully we can get all the elements together before player turnover starts to happen. I think our back 5 is sorted, honestly i do. I think our midfeield in general is lousy but we've a couple of guys in there and up fornt we are bascially trouts
I depends on the opposition. Again lower teams who sit and defende we dont need both. Against physical, attacking midfields we might. But then against defencie teams Gerrard can play next to Lucas or Spearing and we can pump in the attackers.
Llorente isn't your typical target man though. He has a fantastic touch and turn of pace and works well in a 'pass and move' game rather than 'lump it forward'. Really wish we'd got him instead of carroll
Against teams like City, United you could play them all. Spearring Lucas Gerrard Bellamy Suarez Downing Something like that gives us 2 DMs for cover but also good attacking players to cause damage. Also I think Lucas is becoming more creative. As seasons go by he's starting to play more and more forward passes.
