"Specialist in failure" jibe best ever?

Discussion in 'The Premier League' started by Hoddle is a god, Jul 5, 2015.

  1. I was thinking about this the other day, and I've been trying to think of a better put down made by one manager against another, and I have to admit that I cannot think of one.

To remind you all how perfect it was, let me quote from the actual interview with Mourhino.

Wenger had tried to engage in mind-games with the great man by suggesting that the pressure was on Mourhino because "he was afraid to fail." God alone knows what possessed Wenger to think that this was an advisable thing to say! When the interviewer repeated Wenger's comments to Mourhino, the latter said:

"If he is right and I am afraid of failure it is because I didn't fail many times. Eight years without silverware, that's failure. He's a specialist in failure. If I do that in Chelsea, eight years, I leave and don't come back."

It was a devastating come-back and one that made a laughingstock out of Le Prof!

But was it the greatest ever put-down that one manager has made against another? The only other one that comes any where near it is the one that Mourhino used against Wenger during his first stint at Chelsea. In 2005, Mourhino accused Wenger of being a "voyeur," after Le Prof (stupidly) criticized Chelsea's transfer policy.

"He likes to watch other people," said Mourinho in October 2005. "There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea."

That was pure comedy-gold in its own right, and is probably the second-best of all put-downs in history; but I don't think it tops the "specialist in failure" jibe.

That's my view on things, but what's your view, lads?

Let's keep this clean. I want this to be a serious discussion about Mourhino taking the piss out of Wenger and making him look like a fool. I do not want it to descend into wummery. Thank you.

I enjoy watching Wenger getting wound up in front of the cameras, as much as the next man. But for me, that comment by Jose demonstrated what a truly odious man he is. He lacks class. I'd like to say it was beneath him, but the truth is, it demonstrates his character perfectly.

  3. He was just reacting to what Le Prof had said. If Wenger had kept his mouth shut, Jose would have had no need to put him back in his box.

Big difference though. Wenger didnt say anything wrong. His comments werent disrespectful, they just questioned Jose's general approach. It was a professional dig. Jose on the other hand made it personal. And as a result was unprofessional. But it's not the first time so no surprises. At least he wasnt slapping someone on the byline eh!

The comment might have worked had Arsenal not won the FA Cup a few months later while Chelsea won **** all. In fairness Jose made himself look like a ****.

HIAG, you seem to now be a fully paid up member of the Chelsea fan club. Have you renounced Spurs completely or will you retain an interest in them as your second club?

The difference is that Whinger likes to win - BUT, he's stubborn to the point of stupidity at times and has to do it his way, by his own vision of how the game should be played. Maureen, on the other hand, is utterly ruthless - he just wants to win. He doesn't give a flying **** about how he does it, and will employ whatever tactics he deems necessary to do that.

  8. Some interesting views being expressed around this important topic.

Mind-games have always formed a part of the interplay between clubs. Everyone thinks of Fergie as the game's principal expert, but he learned everything he knew from Cloughie, I'm sure. Wenger tries his best, but when he mixes it with a master he comes up comically short. I think, for Wenger, it's best that he sticks to kicking the **** out of harmless water-bottles, than to trying to be clever with the bigger boys. If you're no good at mind games, my advice is that you keep clear of them, like our Poch does.

Yes, I would prefer that mind-games were not part of the sport that I love, but they are, and there is no profit in crying our spilt-milk. That being the case, I think we should all admire a good put-down when we see it. Wenger tried to be clever and he was slapped down like a little bitch-child. Let's laugh at that and admire Jose's mastery of the wum. It was a thing of beauty, and I suspect that Wenger will think very carefully before opening his trap again (ahead of a match with his superiors, Chelsea), although he was, of course, stupid enough to have a pop twice at Jose.

Oh, and thanks for not wumming, guys. It is much appreciated.

Slapped? If you are talking about the thing with Vilanova, it was worse than that, the **** sneaked up on tito vilanova and scratched his eye, he is all class, is Jose.

HIAG waves his Chelsea blue Pom Poms on the daily now that his North London power shift and Arsenal finishing in 7th predictions have inevitably come back to haunt him.

He even admitted that he's had to form an allegiance to Chelsea to try and wum as his attempts as a Spurs fan have failed so miserably. Doesn't seem to be going so well as a Chav fan either on this evidence.

HIAG is the real specialist in failure <ok>

Even funnier that HIAG has repeated the failed joke and also ended up looking the same as Maureen <laugh>

Wenger has won more league titles in England than spurs have in their entire history, and only a couple less that Chelsea in their entire history.

Jose hates the fact that wenger will always be held in higher regard than him, because he was one of the few people who changed english football for the better, jose will never be that fondly remembered outside of the chelsea fans, and he knows it.

Jose will be remembered as a jumped up little **** who got sacked by Chavs twice (just a matter of time).
Wenger will have a place in history as the man who changed football for the better, and for always striving to play the game the right way.

  16. In time, Wenger will become know as "that bloke who was owned big time by Jose."

    That has got to hurt.

Are you so desperate to wum Arsenal fans that you now have to support Chelsea !

Whatever Chelsea or Jose have done is of no consequence to Spurs fans, or are you so jealous of our success that you have to rally behind another team that is also successful because clearly Spurs will never be a top team.

Clearly that is the case. HIAG has so many failed wums under his belt as a Spud that he's had to admit to forming an allegiance with Chelsea.

Trouble is, he's not doing any better as a Chav, as this failed wum thread proves. Maureen and HIAG made ****s out of themselves when the 'specialist in failure' jibe came back to bite Maureen on the Arse when Chlesea won **** all and Arsenal won the FA cup <laugh>
