A ferry has hit several yachts and run aground off the Isle of Wight.

The Red Falcon "came into contact" with a number of boats while trying to berth at Cowes Harbour, operator Red Funnel said.

None of the 40 passengers onboard were hurt, a spokesman said. The Coastguard confirmed nobody is missing or in the water.

A member of the public had called 999 reporting cries for help from within the harbour.

However, this was someone "onboard his own vessel calling out to try and alert the master of the ferry of the situation", the coastguard said.

What is weird is that there was another recent incident (a few weeks ago) where a ferry hit some yachts and cut them adrift....which suggests something is wrong as ferries have been going in and out of Cowes for years with no problems.

Another ridiculous amount of money sending probes to Mercury!

How much has the mission cost?
It's expensive. Engineers have had a torrid time developing the technologies to keep Bepi safe so close to the Sun. Delays have added to the final ticket price.

It's estimated the costs borne by the European Space Agency and the Japanese space agency amount to about €1.65bn. Additionally, national space agencies in Europe have paid for the instrumentation on the MMO, taking the overall budget above €3bn.

This number covers the full lifecycle of the mission, from its approval (2007) to its termination (late 2020s). By way of comparison, the cost of Bepi would pay the salaries of the top seven football teams in the English Premier League for a couple of seasons.

I have no problem with scientific endeavours and their cost because there can be positive outcomes which have nothing to do with the original objective. Just hazarding a guess we may gain information about other planets and why we have life and they don't....important knowledge for anyone who wants to stabilise our atmosphere and weather. No knowledge is ever wasted....remember that when electricity was first being investigated it was considered to have little practical application.

    ^^This.

The technological advances we experienced by having the Moon landings for example are incalculable. Without the quest for knowledge, we stand still.

What may be seen as a pointless mission may (I actually say will) bring back huge relevant scientific discoveries. The fact that this rock lies closest to the Sun (the thing that give humanity life) isn't irrelevant either :)

The ONLY thing I agree with Trump is that he wants to put a man back on the moon. If we could do it with 1960s tech, imagine what we could learn from 2018 tech.

    Rant over :)

    This thing about time lords...

I must have teleported to a different time of year. What a beautiful morning looking out of my window this morning. Is it really 22nd October?

    Lovely photo.
Snow predicted for the some parts of the north and Scotland by the end of the week, apparently.

So she has to clean them because she's the only one who uses them?
