Spanish media go mad for ânew Roberto Carlosâ Kyle Walker Posted by Rob Parker on June 17, 2011 in: England, International, Tottenham|View Comments Spurs youngster big in Spain While we were all left drooling at consummate ease with which Spain under 21s popped the ball around against their English counterparts, the Spanish media did manage to spot something they envied in the opposition ranks: Kyle Walker. The Tottenham full-back was undoubtedly Englandâs best player on the night and his thrusting runs â the last of which led to the Three Lionsâ equaliser â caught the imagination of the Spaniards as they dubbed him the new Roberto Carlos. Walker said: âItâs not a bad compliment is it? Iâm flattered and it shows I must be doing something right. But I canât afford to get too carried away because Iâve got a job to do.â He told The Sun it was unusual to find himself with two markers for Englandâs second match against Ukraine after his impressive opener. He said: âThey tried to do a job on me, it was a bit different. I normally mark the wingers not the other way round. âIt was flattering but a bit frustrating as well. Itâs something weâll have to deal with. Itâs a team game and it canât all revolve around a right-back getting forward.â
