Feel desperately sad for the state they're in. We've had so many good battles with them over the years. Similar size club to us in terms of history and fan base. Can't help but see some similarities to their current ownership to our previous regime. The judge today effectively warned that if they weren't a football club with thousands of fans attached, he'd have wound them up today. They have 42 days to pay off their outstanding £275,000 tax bill or that's it, goodbye Southend. https://www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/23741951.southend-united-given-final-adjournment-pay-off-tax-bill/
Another sad day for football, I'd agree the similarities, we got very lucky with Brad & Shannon, I just hope the fans remember that when things don't go so well, football has changed so much since I was a lad - expectation is very high these days, where I use to be happy to go to a game with no expectation at all, it was a pleasure just to watch the same eleven play week in, week out. Shirts numbered only 1-11 as well! It's become too costly to run a football club these days, a game in the lower leagues for millionaires only, and billionaires in the Prem - little clubs like Gillingham and Southend can no longer survive on peanuts, you have to think big these days aka sleeping giant, but that can have it's drawbacks in times of trouble, 42 days and counting.
