Southend United Vs Gillingham Match Hub 1st January 2013 (HAPPY NEW YEAR) 1 pm- Roots Hall Team News There are no injuries for Gillingham to worry about so Martin Allen has a full squad to choose from, also he should hopefully have new signing Leon Legge available if the paperwork was submitted in time. Southend are hoping that Watford loan star Britt Assombalonga will be fit after he missed Southend's defeat against Burton, however Mark Phillips, David Martin and Freddy Eastwood are all available. Past meetings Gillingham don't have a great result at Roots hall, you have to go back to 2006 for our last win there. 14 Apr 2006 Southend United v Gillingham W 0-1 League One 08 Sep 2007 Southend United v Gillingham L 3-0 League One 26 Dec 2007 Gillingham v Southend United D 1-1 League One 30 Oct 2009 Southend United v Gillingham L 1-0 League One 07 Nov 2009 Gillingham v Southend United W 3-0 FA Cup 05 Apr 2010 Gillingham v Southend United W 3-0 League One 31 Aug 2010 Southend United v Gillingham D 0-0 (4-3) Johnstones Paint Trophy 28 Sep 2010 Gillingham v Southend United D 0-0 League Two 08 Mar 2011 Southend United v Gillingham D 2-2 League Two 13 Sep 2011 Southend United v Gillingham L 1-0 League Two 13 Feb 2012 Gillingham v Southend United L 1-2 League Two 18 Sep 2012 Gillingham v Southend United W 1-0 League Two Current league table Gillingham currently sit 2nd in the league after 23 games with 45 points just a point below Port Vale who have played 1 more game than Gillingham, Southend sit 4th after 25 games with 40 points so far this season. HOADIEâS View on this match I think that this will be a hard game but we can win as we have a great away record, we may not have won at Roots hall since 2006 but this is one of our best teams for playing away for a very long time, it is important that we build up a good run now before it is too late. The score line and scorers I think that this will be a 1-2 win to the Gills, with Burton scoring both for us and Southend's goal coming from the great Gavin Tomlin. Bets If you have any bets that you have placed and you want to share them you are free to share them on here, I am also willing to share any bets that I have placed, you can ask if you want.
Sharp intake of breath through clenched teeth!!!! This will be a squeaky bum one. I'd gladly take a point right now.
Wild guess at this one... Nelson Fish, Legge (sorry Davies but why else have we got Leon?), Barratt, Martin (although I would prefer Jackman) Vincelot (depends on the unknown situation with Payne) Lee, Allen, Weston Burton (Keds was not on the training ground Monday), Birchall
I think the team you named brb is close to what I expect I think it may be this. Nelson Fish Legge Barrett Martin Payne Whelpdale Lee Weston Burton Birchall I am hoping that it is something like this, defiantly with no Vincelot and with Birchall included, also after the last game I would drop Allen (only for a bit) and bring Whelpdale back in.
Hoadie - I was not sure on Charlie Allen, I was trying not to let the thoughts of that heckler in the Medway Stand last home game influence my decision. So I will probably include him every game now just to be damn right stubborn (its an age thing).
I think Charlie Allen is a good player and he has been good this season but that last performance was poor, really poor, just as bad as Montrose was.
I nearly not the team right it is as followed Nelson Fish Legge Barrett Martin Payne Whelpdale Frampton (WTF) Weston Burton Birchall (at last)
Vincelot loan has expired, I hope we don't bring him back. Am I remembering right that this is Adam Birchall's first league start, he started a cup game but not a league one if I am right.
I did not realise Vincelot's loan had expired. Hoadie if I am reading the comments correctly on twitter, your formation might be wrong. Whelpdale and Weston on the wings?
I hope it works as I worry that Frampton don't give us anything today as we need more pace in central midfield, I would have been happy with Davies, Jackman or Lee today.
Listening on Gills Player also have the occasional look at 'Cove it Live' on the Gills official site, generally ahead of live commentary feed.
Barrett set up by Legge but saved, that is a shame, but Barrett is great shooting, sometimes like a striker.
