DEFENDER Nedum Onuoha is looking forward to going up against his best friend in football this evening when Queens Park Rangers head to Southend United. Shrimpers’ midfielder Marc Laird played in the same Manchester City youth team as the R’s centre-back. And the 26-year-old is looking forward to playing against his former teammate in QPR’s final pre-season outing. “I was with him at the academy from 13-14 years old and his mentality is probably still the same, he was brilliant,” Onuoha told www.qpr.co.uk ahead of tonight’s match at Roots Hall. “He’s probably one of my best friends in football, such a nice guy and a really good player as well. “I think he’s unfortunate to not have played at a higher level for a longer period but I’m sure he’s on his way back up.” Tonight will be Rangers final pre-season outing before the new Sky Bet Championship season kicks off in eight days time. Boss Harry Redknapp will be present - after missing QPR’s Austrian Tour following a knee operation -and Nedum is hoping to book his place in the R’s bosses starting line-up when Sheffield Wednesday head to Loftus Road on the opening day. “We’re looking forward to it, it should be a tough game,” he said. “We’ve played a few games this pre-season quite close to each other but this is going to be one of the first ones where we’ve had a few days before it actually kicks-off so we’ll be looking to get a good performance, get some minutes and definitely look to win this one.”
Didn't they beat us a few years back in the LDV cup or something? Would like to think we are better now but.......?
Not sure what to expect A convincing win, a clean sheet and no injuries to AJ or Green would be a bonus
have memories (nightmares) of seeing QPR beaten there a few years back. Hopefully a good performance, with a few goals and no injures
I think we need to say or Hitchcock as well just so as Bobby, Andy and Harry really get the message. Which is - we need goals, a strangely simply tactic lost on most of the senior squad, but the reserves and the fat stroppy one seem to understand. What to do?
I've watched the EDS squad and they seemed to want to score every time they got the ball. We don't have a clue apart from give it to taarabt which is not an option now. I have never seen such a clueless side, completely unable to grasp the basics of football.
We need to play a full strength side. A week to go, and our starting 11 haven't had any gametime together yet this pre-season.
