Copied from the CAFC Website; Southend United 0 Charlton 3 Nathan Jones’ side concluded their pre-season preparations with a 3-0 victory over Southend United at Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon. Sonny Carey was on hand to fire the Addicks ahead inside 19 minutes, while substitute Gassan Ahadme bagged two goals in as many second-half minutes. A determined Tyreece Campbell played a vital role in supplying the opener as the forward pounced on a lapse in concentration at the back. The ball was eventually threaded out to Rob Apter, who slotted a neat pass into the path of Carey and he evaded his man before finding the back of the net with a deflected finish. The hosts’ hopes of a leveller soon came as substitute Slavi Spasov was adjudged to have been fouled by Amari’i Bell, with referee Robert Claussen pointing to the spot. Fortunately for the Addicks, Thomas Kaminski denied Gus Scott-Morriss from 12 yards. Nathan Jones opted for a change at the break as Ahadme entered the fray, replacing Charlie Kelman. There was instant impact from the 24-year-old as he netted two in quick succession. The first came as Conor Coventry whipped a well-placed cross into the box, allowing the striker to head home from close range. He added his second with a neat flick on just moments later, converting Apter’s cross-shot. The Shrimpers threatened ahead of the hour mark as a loose ball fell to Josh Walker in the box, who forced an important block from Greg Docherty to deny a certain goal. The Addicks' full focus now turns to their Sky Bet Championship opener against Watford at The Valley on Saturday (KO 12.30pm BST).
