I loved Quinny's story about Southend away in 2006:

"We got pasted at Southend and in trying to understand the depths of the losing mentality, that was the first time I got really annoyed. One of the players reacted to losing by saying, "What did you expect, the hotel's s***". 'I can't remember whether Bobby Saxton dragged me off the player or the other way around. That's what we inherited."

so I looked up the team to see if I could figure out who the player was (see below) :

    Ben alnwick
    Spephen wright
    robbie elliott
    kenny cunningham
    neil collins
    rory delap
    dean whitehead
    grant leadbitter
    daryl murphy
    stephen elliott
    jonathan stead

    subs:
    Arnau
    darren ward
    danny collins
    liam lawrence
    kevin kyle

I've ruled out Deano and the quiet lad from Fence Houses. Cunningham's in the clear ( a mate of Quinny's), Arnau probably couldn't speak english so he's out.
So for me, that narrows it down to the ex Mag at left back, the bloke with the long throw, and the poser who was only interested in collecting opposition shirts while we went down with 15 points the year before.
Anybody else want to take a guess?

by the way we lost 3-1. Stead scored for us.

  3. I was at that match, a total shambles it was. I was told at the time that it was Kevin Kyle who was sold shortly after. Big hard lad Kyle like so Quinny must have a bit about him if it was him..

100% spot on. We had Lawrence at the Chester le street branch to collect his player of the year award. We had a full house and he eventually turned up 1 hour late, with his new Porsche and his mates. If couldn't be arsed to talk to anyone and ****ed off as soon as if could. An arrogant ****er who really thought he was David Beckham.

Pity that lasses father couldnt have brayed the ****er for that home movie if was involved in. His daughter might have been the town bike but she didn't deserve that lame **** broadcasting it all over the place and effecting her family.

    Definately Lawrence.

Heard tales about Lawrence, as one of my mates lived near him, total prick.

Brayed off the Shrimpers? Seen that a few times, although I wasn't there in 2006. Remember when Collymore played for them? Eeek!

That was the last squad Kevin Kyle was in for us, any coincidence?

I was also at this match. I went with a South End Supporter and after the match I said to him that South End were so bad that they were going to be relegated for sure but we were 10 times worse than them! They actually did get relegated but we went on to win the league the most amazing turn around I have ever seen. This was all down to Kean who did a fabulous job but was never going to manage long term as you can shout and shout at players for a period but not forever.

I forgot to say this was the match we were singing 'Your not fit to wear the shirt' it was that bad. I hope never to hear Sunderland fans singing that ever again.

Wasn't Lawrence sold to Stoke not long after this saying he was moving to a bigger and better club? Prat

  13. Lawrence was sold after his training ground hammering off Keane. Apparently he told Keane to **** off and found himself pinned to a wall by his throat. Yeah the guy was a total arsehole..

Don't forget the romp thing, didn't Keane move all those players on. I remember Ben Alnwick was another. Used to go to Newcastle away games with his schoolboy coach, his team was never the same after Alnwick went to Sunderland.

  15. Yeah that's right he did move them on. Chris Brown was the other member of the romp trio, another hapless git..
