Am in full smug mode. Curbishley discussing City/Chelsea game on Sky...using Southampton as an example of how to get a result. Showed several examples of how we stopped City playing and made them change to long ball. When he was asked why doesn't everyone play like Southampton did, Curbishley replied, 'Well you have to have the players and strength.'
It's nice to be recognised that the way we played influenced the outcome, rather than most journalists saying we won because city had an off day
I used to think that Curbishley was an idiot and didn't have two brain cells to rub together. Seems he can think for himslef and not join the "City were **** rather than Saints were excellent" bandwagon.
Curbishley said we made them change their game and they couldn't cope with it. Showed bits of film demonstrating how we closed them down and cut off their preferred passing game. I read one article remarking how a City player was in such despair when he saw Rickie approach that he put the ball out for a throw when he still had options. They also remarked how good we were on MOTD, so I think a lot of people did appreciate how well we played.
Chlesea and Man City have too many star players and not enough willing to do the un-glamorous hard work. Man Utds team and squad isn't as strong player for player (for the most part) as Chelsea and Man City, but they have the team spirit and players that do a job for the team.
Fran as I recall Shearer said we were brilliant and emphasised it as we'll, Lawro said we were good but it hurt him to say it, but they still had a bit highlighting how poor city were rather than how good we were. Still Lawro has us down to loose on Sunday so that's comforting
