Nigel Adkins got Southampton from league 1 to the PL in two years with successive promotions. Southampton sit 15th in the PL and I'd back them to stay up. Nigel Adkins should be seen as a hero to them. But today he has been sacked. I hope Southampton are relegated after this. What does a manager have to do to keep his job these days. Did the Southampton chiefs want a league title and treble?
is getting silly nowdays. suppose the only saving grace is they get paid a lot more than us and are not usually out of a job for too long, we don't have that luxury. after his fecking Chelsea result as well
Not really sure what else Adkins could have done. Surely his goal for first season back in the PL was to stay up; something which they are currently on track to be doing. All the new guy is gonna do is disrupt the team by changing things and trying to put his 'stamp' on the club. The club wil struggle following on from this. I can see them getting relegated now, whereas before I fancied them to stay up. Pathetic decision really. Club owners have no ****ing clue what they're doing.
Similar to the Newcastle decision to remove Chris Houghton. Managerial merry go round. He could be next Chelsea boss(Adkins).
Really annoys me when clubs do this. No wonder players have no loyalty when they treat a manager who has dragged them up from nowhere to the premiership.Just when they seemed to be settling into the league. Thought they were Certs for relegation but think they were good enough to survive, now, sorry saints fans, I hope they go down and I hope Adkins gets a good job and brings his team up to replace them.
It's decisions like this that make me wonder why I follow PL football. Adkins had done a tremendous job for the Saints & depsite the obvious handicap of being a kopite, is not only a nice bloke but a very talented manager, who's record is fantastic. He'd stabilised them in the toughest league in the world & they had every chance of staying up under his leadership. His sacking is ridiculous & if I was a Saints fan I'd be livid today.
You see where someone put Adkins in the snow in front of St. mary's? They made the groundscrew wipe it away.
Saints fan here. I am shocked and furious with our chairman. Nigel was the best manager we've had for a long time. To those who hope we go down: Would you see thousands of fans suffer for the actions of one man? Surely teams like QPR (who are spending ludicrous amounts of money on wages) deserve to be relegated more.
I'd like to see you stay up still, but if you did get relegated then your chairman should take full responsibility.
To be fair, a couple saints fans I know are very unhappy with the decision too. I just don't see the thinking process of your owners. I had you down to survive, but this might put you right back in the mix.
