In for maynard? your thought's... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/216790/Southampton-ready-with-bid
It would be good if true but we shall have to wait and see. Out of the three strikers we were interested in at the beginning of the season he is the only one who plays for a club whos situation may have changed.
To be honest, i'd rather we went in for Billy Sharp as I think he would be excellent for us. I think he's a better all round player than Maynard and he'll have the chance for real career progression and not to mention he's worked with Adkins before. The prospect of Sharp and Lambert up front is mouth watering indeed! I also think we could get him for a reasonable price with Doncaster languishing at the bottom of the table. Despite what the article says, somehow, I still feel Bristol City will want big money for Maynard. As far as I know, the only thing that stopped Sharp signing for us in the summer, were personal terms. However, i'm sure if negotiations were to open up again, a deal could be easily sorted. I'd certainly welcome him to St Marys with open arms, he'd be a quality addition.
We are in a great position to sign though being top of the leage and all be an interesting januray window!
Bristol can keep their 6 million or whatever price tag if they want. If no one buys him then he's off for free..
Perhaps our aspirations have changed..do our targets in the summer now fit the bill? Our requirements in January will depend on our league position and injuries within the squad.
Do wonder if some of our targets (assuming they were true targets) have regrets when they see our present position. Yes, I know..early days, early days.
I think character is the important factor for Nigel. A player has to fit in, not be a big time charlie, accept he won't play every week, and give 100% for the team if called on from bench. A loan will only work if that player is trying to get a Saints' contract and not just trying to prove themselves before shooting back to their home club.
I would rather have Rodriguez, who may be much more willing to join if we keep our current league position
Read this tosh: http://www.adifferentleague.co.uk/p...be-preparing-cut-price-nicky-maynard-bid.html Criticising Connolly, who has been excellent this season. And Forte who has hardly played! Dreadful, dreadful written rubbish - the internet is full of this crap more so than ever now!
If we were bidding for Maynard, it's because we're short of strikers and need depth. Connolly is more than pulling his weight although he does need a goal soon to keep his confidence up. These people need to do more research.
went to the Palace Bristrol game on tuesday, Maynard hardly got a touch, mainly due to the terrible players around him, I have never seen a poorer team at this level, David James made a complete fool out of himself on a number of clearances. Puely down to confidence I wont pay 3m for him, and I think Bristol would do well to spend 3 m on some stronger midfield players. PS Palace didnt look good at all but wilfred zaha is abit special going forward
