http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...uthampton-put-8m-price-on-Rickie-Lambert.html Should ward anyone off of him, can't see anyone paying that. The big question though... you get an £8m offer - sell? DTLW
No. He'll still get us 10 or more goals this season and still get's a fair few assists. He's still too valuable to the team despite his lack of form.
He's certainly not at his best at current and certainly for me looks to have taken a sharp decline physically, but until we actually have someone who has proven they can do his job better than him, or his form really just bottoms out, I wouldn't sell him for £8m.
Assuming we actually do have a striker lined up who will push Lambert to the bench (or possibly further down the bench) then: 1) 8 million is a pretty good offer for Lambert already, and his value is going down. If we're really not going to use him much, 8 mil could come in handy BUT 2) Lambert is still a pretty good player. I'm not positive that he isn't still a first-team guy, or at least a rotation guy. Let him get more rest, use him in games against less quick opponents. Have him come on as an impact sub. And what if this player isn't all we think he is or needs some time to bed in? BUT 3) Lambert deserves to play first team football and get a crack at the National team and West Ham is a good spot for him. They're long ball-ish but not really as long ball as people think so Lambert's going to get to play to his strengths there but still show he's more than just a target man. I could see him knocking quite a few home. BUT 4) He might keep West Ham up, and I kinda want to see West Ham go down BUT 5) If we're just talking second half minutes, maybe 15-30 here and there at Saints it might be time to give those minutes to Gallagher as he is the future BUT 6) I really don't want Lambert to leave. He's done so much for this club, and I hope he retires in a Saints shirt and if he wants to stay in football he can coach here. I can't imagine a better youth coach than someone whose had to learn and build his game and start from the lowest tier like Rickie. So... final verdict.... I think that after all that Lambert has done, he deserves the right to choose his own fate. I'd accept that bid. If he wants to stay here and fight for a place in the side or he just doesn't want to go, then I'd be ecstatic and he can stay as long as he likes. But if he thinks it is better for his career and his future and possibly his World Cub chances to go to West Ham, I think he should have be given that opportunity.
Rickie is going nowhere. Nicola has priced him out of the market for a skint Wet Spam and anyone else who might come sniffing around. Rickie will retire a Saint. If he went who would take our next penalty should we ever be awarded one again?
I agree Ricky is going nowhere.......£8 mil will put off most prospective buyers.......unless that is you have money to burn!! I truly cannot see him going for anything like that Fee as I feel he will finish his career in the top flight with us.
I don't see rickie wanting out, I don't see cortese selling him in jan. How much would we need to pay for a new striker to come in and do what he does? How much would Lukaku cost? Any new signing is a gamble and its not like we desperately need the 8m. Horrible thought, only good aspect would be if rickie was happy and started banging them in again.
I don't think its enough. 31 isn't very old for a player these days. Wasn't Van Persie 31 when he went to Utd? I reckon Lambert has two or 3 years left in the top flight if used correctly. Probably not as the out and out target man that West Ham obviously think he is!
I would be hurt if I was Rickie. He wanted to finish his career here, but is now in such good nick that he has increased his playing lifespan by several years and has just been selected for England. Will we want/need him for a couple of more years...probably not. That makes me very sad.

I don't know why everyone's getting worried, nobody's going to pay £8m for an out of form 32 year old with one good season in top flight football under his belt. There's absolutely no guarantee the story is true, anyway. No, he still isn't 31 now.
Because of the way he drops deep and links midfield with attack, because of the way he reads the game, and because of the way he holds the ball up, we're a better team when Rickie starts even if he's not scoring. And lately, he has been scoring. I don't think we should take £8mill for him, but asking fans about finances is meaningless really. As has been said, I'm a little worried that Cortese didn't slap a price of £20mill on his head. That's if there's one word of truth in the Telegraph article, of course.
8 Million is such a strange price...decent for a player of Rickie's age but not big enough to say clearly piss off.
Everyone seems to be assuming that there is any truth in this story. More completely speculative "journalism" if you ask me.
