Theres no better place for Luke than here. I don't think talks will drag on. Five years sounds good. Sign him up Nic, sign him up.
I think we have really made some sacrifices for Luke Shaw's development, not signing a youngish left back was clearly to protect Luke Shaw's pathway into the team, as a consequence we dropped points where we maybe wouldn't have if we had have signed Buttner or Boilsen. That said he should do what he thinks is best for himself. Which for my money would be to stay at southampton until he is 35, same with everyone at Southampton except for Ramirez who I think will be pushing for champions league very soon. Adkins said in his press conference that he is only seventeen and hinted at signing a contract when he turns 18 like JWP.
Isn't it great that these days we're talking about giving these fantastic young players contracts instead of selling them on for far less than their potential value?
Let's hope he has his head screwed on right...this is the place for him to ply his trade. Most players move on at some stage, so signing a contract now doesn't mean he will never play for United/Chelsea etc, but he will get more match time here and be with some great coaches. If we do as well as Cortese wants, he may never have to leave.
Daily StarShaw, who is set to make his fourth league start against Norwich tonight, said: âSeeing my name linked with those big clubs was crazy. I tried not to pay attention to it because I donât want it to get into my head.âWhen the stories came out I was happy at Southampton and I am still happy. It is great club and I want to be here.âWe give youngsters chances and other clubs donât have what we have here at Southampton. âI have been here since I was seven and I have loved every bit of it.âThere have been a few players to come through our academy and go on to success and that is what we aspire to be like
