If this is the quality of the contributors I guess it will be prudent to avoid it at all costs.

Interesting that Saints are more connected to their fans than ever via the different social media outlets... yet there is little or no interaction with fans with regard to answering our questions.

Probably less interaction now, than in the last 20 years (no fans forums, Solent forums, no acknowledgement of supporters groups, no fan relation officer etc etc).

Retweeting pics of a few gurning gimps wearing their shirts in cars on the way to an away game, isn't really what I would call "interaction".

Indeed. Clubs like to give the impression they are "down wit da fans", but really, they want us at arms length... if not further.

Hate to state the blindingly obvious CBK, but I wouldn't imagine you were in the main target audience group for this latest fad. It's called building a fanbase for the future.
I know, I know, the oldies won't like it. They like things done the way they always was, because "that's how it was done in my day".

Change is good. Without change we'd be out of business right now remember?!

I'm still firmly of the belief that the worst things football club can do is listen to it's fans. Keep an eye on the blue end of Hampshire for the next thrilling episode in that story.

Pointless. Snapchat is pretty pointless anyway, but especially pointless for a football club.

Nah, some of the kids will love it and be thrilled when a picture of them appears on the official site. Solidifies loyalty.

So a child/teenager/massively immature adult will select Southampton Football Club as their team to support because they post pictures onto social media of someone in the Saints media office wearing a santa hat?

Great. Those probably are the fans of tomorrow. Simpering idiots, the ones who desert a club as quickly as they latch onto it.

Engaging with all the forms of social media is a necessary evil these days in order to create (and I'm sure you'll object to this expression) 'brand loyalty', particularly amongst the younger generations. As opposed to creating fair weather fans, the very opposite is true - it strengthens a youngsters bond to the club, where on the face of it there may be more successful and attractive options.

I have to do precisely the same with the bands I work with - meet & greets, signed CDs - it's about engaging, at however superficial a level, with your fanbase. If you don't do that, you die. I can't bear the fact that it's becoming as important as the quality of product in my industry, but absolutely appreciate why it's necessary for the club to do so wherever possible right now. Smart move and will help to secure out future, no matter what we olds might think!

Come on CBK, who have you asked your questions to? Have you written to anyone? Have you phoned for an appointment or a phone call with anyone?

If you want the club to listen to the fans, then as a fan, ask them questions.

Give me a flavour of the questions you'd ask, I'd seriously be interested in what you'd ask?

Oh dear CBK..........you are suffering a little of "the old man syndrome for sure"........When we were young do you not remember the times when we all will have said...why don't they......"whatever" and more than not the reply would have come back....that is not the way it is done. We have always done it this way and it works!?
Well this is just another of those times but in reverse..........Was there not a discussion on another thread about "commercial viability" and the need to use all avenues open to you? It seems our chairman is using this as another tool......Love it or hate it, is it going to do any harm to try?

Have no problem with new stuff aimed at the youngsters...after all we don't have to use it (bit different if it was compulsory). I remember when few people had a phone at home...as soon as we got one, our parents did too so they could contact us. It's just that new stuff comes along more frequently now...and becomes obsolete quicker as well.

Perhaps we should all get in with the kids...I'm sure they'd love snapshots of our wrinkles and stray hairs. :)
