Lets stay calm after todays disappointing result but brilliant performance.

JUST TWO years ago this weekend we lost at home to Rochdale in league 1.

That was a particular low point for me - the performance was awful - passing not fluid, lots of huff and puff - no end product - never looked like scoring. We were managerless and 18th in league 1.

JUST TWO years later we are at home to one of the best teams in the world - matching them, playing very pleasing football and so close to beating them.

SIX players from the defeat to Rochdale played again against Man UTD - Davis, Fonte, Schneiderlin, Guly, Puncheon and Lambert - Thats over half the team and add Lallana to that who was very much with us in league 1.

So despite all the wheeling and dealing and brilliant extra additions to the squad we still have a nucleus of a league 1 team that lost to Rochdale. We now have a manager that has pulled a team together and who have come such a long way with great improvements and team spirit.

As disappointing as the result was today it doesnt compare to 2 years ago - undone by a couple of late goals against the best in the world.

Proud to be a saint and performances like that results will improve.

Some so called fans on here and in general, gomarchinin in to name one and the rest of you know who you are should be ashamed with your anger, piss off and support Liverpool, a team who 2 years ago were playing champions league football and are now playing worse than us. Whats with the doom and gloom.

Southampton need and DESERVE your support.

I remember losing to Rochdale in the away game that season. Pissing down with rain, very depressing.

Strewth....do you have to remind me of that defeat.........I do agree about your other points though. Although most of it is just hot air and taking their frustration out on a internet Forum. I'd hate tosee whats Saints web was doing right now. Worse than on here I'd wager..........

We have had an amzing rise in such a short time....could be a movie...though we'd have to win the Champions league to give it the right end:)

Brilliantly said! I'm one of those who are proud rather than pissed today anyway, but this post has made me appreciate it even more

Looking back , what does that do , like Celtic harking back to 68 or Villa and their Cup win , what does it achieve ?

We are here on merit , we are a worthy club of the league , we should respect and not fear anyone and have far higher aspirations of not only taking part and being good value but also being successful .

I think we really have to back Adkins all season & if the worse should happen look what he did at Scunthorpe. We have an exciting future if the players, fans & board-manager relationship remain strong.

Good post....with our success and hence two promotions since that game we have accrued more fans attending games and more posters on here for that matter...some of whom really do need to take a reality check.
The only thing I will say, is our manager that day wasn't around for very long after!!

    Great post
I agree with BT as well.
Hopefully today the fans who made unpleasant comments about players who helped get us back to the Prem will reflect back at yesterday's game and be proud of the teams performance.

Give it a break mate. You've had a good old go about our losing yesterday and I hope you have noticed that most of us disagree with your views on the team and several individual players. Just going on and on about it is making you look a bit of a chump to be honest.

I dare you to give us five positives (and not ridiculous ones) from yesterday's game.

If you can't or will not then I will have to assume that the poster who suggested you are a Pompey supporter was right.

I don't normally invade your board - but something you ought to take into account from yesterday...........

By all accounts you played extremely well and should have taken a lot of positives out of that game, but remember, it cost Man U £80m (I believe that's the final figure) to get those 3 points yesterday.

Yes but you've just moved up to a new division and unless your intention is to go straight back down you will have no choice but to make an investment - plus that amount won't have been on just 1 player.

Also (for some reason the pundits haven't noticed this) it has been on young players who will definitely get better and be worth that amount or more in the future.

Spot on 3rd eye...You are right. Trouble is we have got to the Premier a shade earlier than originally intended. We are still building we have an extremely young team. Despite the fact We are owned by very wealthy people it is my view that they are not likely to spend too much of that on getting in decent players. With the money they have spent on the academy I would have thought they are looking to that to get our future stars instead of having to pay out hard cash. Young Ward Prowse is a prime example of their intentions at 17 holding his own in the premier.

A comment like this always makes me want to go GGGGGRRRRRRRRR - and kick even harder those that have been owning and running and (mis)managing our club for the last decade.

Although I agree with the sentiment made in the OP, I was more proud of the teams performance against Man City. The Man U game we sat back for the last ten plus minutes and the substitutions this time did not have the desired impact.
I agree there is no need to be down-hearted. All I ask is we continue to play we have been and that the players and fans don't lose faith.
