After last nights results it is now impossible for our neighbours from the east to finish above us this season. This means that once again Saints are Hant's finest team and the number 1 on the South Coast for the first time since 2005. Well done to Nigel and the boys who have restored us to our rightful place in the modern game. Those of us of a certain age will remember the last time we reclaimed top spot was 1960, this then lasted for 45 years. Personally I can see the same thing happening again, and it could be 2057 before we are knocked off our perch . I will be pushing 100 by then, so I could have seen my beloved Saints below the Blue Few for the last time. I'll raise a glass to that......... COYR's
Another reason to celebrate, is that we are mathematically safe from relegation in the first week in March, a great achievement for the club. Now, the next objective is promotion, either via the play-offs or automatically. I personally feel that finishing outside of the top two will not be the disaster that most on here think it will be, we are good enough to win play-offs, although I would prefer not having to.
Don't tell South Today that. They still think that Portsmouth, Reading, Brighton and Havant and Waterlooville are bigger clubs than us !
Pompey will struggle to get more than five points from the remaining fixtures. Game over. I think we cemented our place as the No1 S/C club around October.
Keep the faith HR, they can still stay up. Not really, it would be a miracle from here. They do play the three teams above them (all away) but would have to win all three, and that's just a start.
They created nothing last night, a throw in was the best attempt on goal, no fight, no spirit.....& cap it all off with a Kitson. No hope. L1 will be a fresh start, just hope they make it.
It's flattering that even when you're top of the league and playing someone else, we're still never far from your thoughts apparently. It must be love. Er, what?
What makes me laugh is all this "they can't take our spirit" nonsense. Avram Grant was a joker, crap manager and yet he ponces about on the pitch with a mike and they love it. Same with the clown they have now. As HR said, no fight, and yet they go on about what a good job he's doing. They'll go down by more than the -10 yet, have a massive wage bill yet "Appy" is doing a "good job". I'd hate to see him doing a bad one.
