On a few articles it reports that we are looking at signing a south american left back. Bruce didn't have much success with us when signing south americans, hopefully MON has a bit more about him which i imagine he has judging by signings so far. Jesus Rabanal has been ruled out so could it be Juan Vargas who is on loan to Genoa from Fiorentina at the moment?
the rumour going around on the SMB seems to suggest its Juan Vargas now if that lad is prepared to come here and work hard and not have the same mentality as a Muntari or a Cisse then he could be one of the best signings we have made for years! class player It also mentions MoN wanting a RB as well, I hope it is someone with similar attributes to Rose, Kyle Naughton, Andrea Beck, Torrisidis or Serge Aurier would be my choices
I read somewhere poolie that he is more of an attacking midfielder though rather than a LB, also read he is one of the best players at crossing a ball. Your overseas football wisdom is far superior to mine, ha. Wonder if you know where he plays for Genoa?
he can play LB, LM or even CM, Real Madrid were linked with him a couple of years back and as you say one of the best at crossing a ball. I have to say I have only seen Genoa once this season and Vargas has a knock so didn't play
Please dear an utter god let it be Juan Manuel! Long term posters will be aware that my dearly departed, never forgotten, and football nuts gran was a Fiorentina fan, and as a result they are my second team, and one that I have genuine, genuine passion for (not to SAFC levels of course...). Vargas is a ****ing magician of a player, started mainly as a left back, used to get forward, and delivers INCREDIBLE balls into the box. He was shifted to LM as a result of his flaw, he's not the quickest, hence was getting caught out of position. The lad is quick enough mind, his control is incredible, he takes a mean free kick, he was linked at €24million to Real Madrid maybe 2 years ago. Between him & Zarate, I'd have Juan Manuel, and you'll all have seen how much I want Zarate last few days! The lad could easily play as a centre mid, he has superb short passing, and very quick decision making, this in particular is an area we can all agree we lack in. This is one of my favourite players in world football, and one I find it incomprehensible we may sign, so **** me please let this be!
MONs it sounds like he's a class player... so do you know why he's on loan at the moment? Why Fiorentina haven't kept hold of him? Like TVI I also used to sign him on FM and he always ended up top top class, so I'd love MON to get him in!
Quite a strange one really, but not massively difficult to explain. He missed a few games towards the end of last season, people forget that up until maybe 3 years back, the Viola were regular Champions League contenders, that money kept hold of players to an extent, then a couple of seasons back, rather unexpectedly, and despite having a breakthrough Jovetic (more on him in a second...), Vargas, Gamberini, Gilardino & others, they had a woeful season, almost to the point of relegation. For an Italian club, missing CL is a loss closer to £15-20million, not as harsh as a PL team, but at the same time they lost their main sponsor Toyota due to the problems in the motoring world, indeed, they couldn't replace them and had no shirt sponsor for 3/4 of the season. Jovetic developed, he is incredible that boy, Vargas was linked with many, many clubs, nothing happened because Jovetic got a bad injury, but Vargas was never quite the same player for Fiorentina, I don't recall him scoring, if he did it would only have been 1 or 2, Jovetic then returns. Fiorentina, desperate to lower wage bill AND keep Jovetic, so Vargas is farmed out to Genoa, where he has been awful, the whole team has been horrific, onto their 3rd gaffer of the season, so clearly a loan player will be looking for an out. In a nutshell, I think he was moved out to keep Jovetic, they simply couldn't afford to keep both, and there was no buyer for Vargas.
Top explanation! All makes sense. Suppose there's a chance of him wanting a fresh start then... in the NE! Agreed Jovetic is a top player. Won't be long until he's off to one of the big boys... I got a Fiorentina shirt when I was over in Florence last year, was going to get him on the back but I didn't think he'd stay beyond the summer!
I was stunned when he stayed mate, the lad is Madrid/Barca/United standard, easily, and he's still a kid. Started the season fantastic, the whole side did, flirted with the idea of a CL push for 8 weeks, but the reality is Juve, Napoli, Inter & Lazio are just too strong. Maybe selling Jovetic will bring in enough money to buy 3 players desperately needed, losing Gilardino was big, losing Gamberini was massive, losing Montolivo was even bigger, and the defence is very suspect. We've signed Guiseppe Rossi, which is fantastic if he can get fit again, but all this says is Jovetic is gonna go, which likely means the good but not great Ljajic will support Rossi, could be great, could be ****. Borja Valero & Alberto Aquilani should theoretically be a tidy centre mid, Mati Fernandez is sensational at times but wildly inconsistent, often invisible, the whole thing's patchy as ****, and the whole side, including Jovetic, lacks a bit of pace.
Got to admit I would rather have Kate Beckinsale lying with her legs spread wide open flicking her bean saying come on shove it up, but on the other hand he does sound like a good player so why not.
