STEPHEN Ireland is on standby to make his Newcastle United debut against Everton.

The midfielder, on a half-season loan from Aston Villa, took part in full training for the first time today since his deadline-day move last month.

With Joey Barton struggling with the thigh injury which kept him out of Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers, and Ryan Taylor suspended after his dismissal, manager Alan Pardew could turn to Ireland.

And Pardew has revealed Ireland has told him he would be ready to play by text after Barton was pulled out of the team.

“Stephen could make his debut against Everton, but it depends on Joey,” Pardew said.

“Ryan’s suspended, and Stephen has a great opportunity. He sent me a text saying ‘I’m ready to play’.

“He knew Joey got injured in training, and fair play to him – that’s what you want. You want players who are desperate to play.”

If he can regain the the type of play he showed at City he could be a big player for us!

Was immense at City. Scarily good imo considering City weren't the finished article at the time. We could have a world class player on our hands if he gets his fitness back and plays alongside HBA and Tiote.

Debut against Everton? Blimey that's kind of exciting!
Don't want to rush him though!

Good news considering the Joey situation! Hoping he's fit for Everton but if not at least we've apparently got Ireland waiting!
    Looking forward to seeing him!

Looking forward to seeing Ireland play. If he can attain the levels he did a few years back then he can be influential.
