Found this on The sky website. http://www.skysports.com/football/transfers/scout The scout reports... Souleymane Coulibaly is the latest hot young African striker, like so many before him labelled the new Didier Drogba. Some labels on young players are tough for them to handle, the label of the new Drogba on Coulibaly is pretty much just wrong. That is not to say that he could not emulate the Chelsea striker's success - he quite possibly could - it is just that he is not really a similar sort of player. Drogba is all about power, pace and finishing - and whilst those are attributes Coulibaly possesses, he has more to his game. Coulibaly is brilliantly skilful and could even play as an out-and-out winger if his finishing skills were not so pronounced. Born in Ivory Coast, as a young teenager Coulibaly fled the war-hit country with his father to Italy. Not long after his arrival in Italy, Coulibaly was spotted by Siena and snapped up. He progressed with speed through their youth system and was part of the Under-19 system last season. But the real trigger for the interest in Coulibaly has come from his performances with Ivory Coast's youth side as he excelled at the Under-17 World Cup where he scored a remarkable nine goals. After picking up the golden boot in Mexico, that led to a host of clubs from around the world taking a keen interest with Manchester United and Real Madrid both said to be leading the chase. But Tottenham moved quickly to agree terms with Siena and they paid around £2million for the youngster. The scout says... Looks a remarkable talent, full of energy and skill and it was no surprise most of Europe was chasing him. He is now settled at Tottenham at a young age, and they are very good at looking after young talent - Coulibaly is one to watch very closely in the coming few seasons. The Scout rating... Shooting: 9 out of 10 Passing: 7 out of 10 Tackling: 6 out of 10 Heading: 7 out of 10 Pace: 9 out of 10 Vision: 7 out of 10 Current ability: 7 out of 10 Potential ability: 10 out of 10 OVERALL SCOUT RATING: 62/80 Current value: £2million Potential value: £30million After reading that and also various first hand reports, think we have got a potential star of the future. Thoughts?
Let's hope so. He'll get chances in the U19s CL thing this season and I guess there's an outside chance that he could push for a place in a Europa or Carling Cup squad.
Seems to be doing the business all ready at U-18 level. Also saw the clips on youtube of him in the U-17 world cup and looks a really good finisher, can hit 'em sweet with both feet too which is quite rare. Even if he is only 16 hopefully Harry can give him a little run out in the Europa alongside Kane at some point to show a glimpse of what could be our future strike pair.
The Drogba comparison doesn't appear to be incorrect, they're both strong and fast, it's just that Souleymane is smaller in stature. Drogba also has a lot of skill, so I'm not sure I agree with him at all on that, apart from the fact that he's probably only really been compared to him as he's Ivorian and a striker.
The Drogba comparison is based on them both being Ivorian - Coulibaly's heading, at least based on this article, is nowhere near as good as Drogba's. However, his attributes make him sound like a potential Eto'o...
I never get why, when we speak of a young player as 'the next so and so' they are almost invariably from the same racial background. Barely any of these predictions actually materialise, so why are we unable to compare players on purely footballing ability rather than where they come from/their skin colour. Examples: Taarabt was the next Zidane Coulibaly is the next Drogba Anderson was the next Ronaldinho
