    ... but you're just a coward and a hypocrite.

"We have got to use our voice in the right way at the right time."

That translates as 'We have to say nothing and certainly not in the build up to the competition.'

Thousands of 'migrant' workers have died, many in the construction of the stadiums.

All Southgate can manage is a parody of Newcastle supporters who acknowledge the barbarity of the 'Arabs' but claim they're unfortunately helpless to make even the slightest criticism or objection ...

... it's absolutely shameful from the manager of our National side imo.

It's barely a World Cup worthy of the name tbh ...

... we all know it's a farce before it even starts.

Southgates been a prat from day one and nothing he's said or done lately has changed my opinion of him.
The whole international set up is a farce, thought when we got shot of Platter FIFA would change but no it's the same old same old.
A World Cup competition in the middle of a football season...really.

Southgate is the FA's 'Yes' man. Easy appointment for them to make and will never rock the boat. Soft as ****e. The way the FA operate we will have Lee Carsley (current u21 manager) up next. The top 10 in the PL wouldn't touch Southgate with a bargepole. He hasn't got the minerals in the blood and thunder environment of week in week out top level football. Will be surprised if he gets another job when they eventually 'part company by mutual consent' in a couple of years.

"FIFA says they want to 'develop football in Qatar'."

And why not, that's an admirable idea that may make Qatar feel more inclined to be part of the real world and not their medieval dictatorship.

Do they need to achieve that by handing their team a bye to the World Cup and the country a golden opportunity for a huge chunk of sportswashing ...

... or could they quietly send coaches to develop the youth game and encourage youngsters.

No, because that would risk exposing young minds to concepts of human decency and the acceptance of fairness to all races.

Disagree 100% have met him several times.. He is no different to me when I have talked to him. He has shown major interest in grassroots and has made some of the kids I coach feel 10 foot tall. I can only speak as I find.

FIFA will end up giving 2028 to Russia <doh>

Edit: they (FIFA) will already be thinking 'everyone will have forgotten about the Ukraine by the time 2028 comes around'

That's commendable and, tbh, expected from the National manager.

It doesn't excuse his comments in this article imo but you may disagree.

Out of interest, and I'm digressing slightly from the topic of the thread, but how has the legacy of the Rio Olympics gone down in Brazil? Are all those stadiums/swimming pools/running tracks still in use? And what about the South Africa world cup. Anyone still got their Vuvuzela? Are those brand new stadiums packed out and is the South African football (or soccer?) league thriving?

I've never met him but he seems to be a likeable chap who I would quite happily have a bevvy with. But that's not necessarily who I would want in charge of my national football team.

I have not said I disagree. I have disagreed with someone who says he has no links to the common man. Dont drag me into something I never commented on. Thanks!
