Whilst I genuinely felt concern for Muamba, and I truly hope he gets better...........

Anyone on here know the story about Jimmy Thorpe?

All I'm sayin is how times change.

As I recall it from an early childhood version in the 40s, Thorpe was our goalie who received a kick in the head diving at somebodys feet in a game against Newcastle I think. It happened in the 1920s apparently.

Sorry Bobby, I should have Googled this before the last post.

    INFO TAKEN FROM WIKIPEDIA
A diabetic, the goalkeeper collapsed into a coma from which he never recovered, attributed to the rough treatment he received on the pitch in a game against Chelsea. His death lead to the rule that players were no longer able to kick the ball out of the goalkeeper's arms.[15

Me again Bobby. I have now "got the message" from your post and have finally seen what you got at, the Thorpe situation can certainly be compared with Muamba's but it is barely a footnote in football history. I guess the the only difference was that Thorpe's death did not take place on TV and became a cause celebre.

Whereas Thorp'es event led to a change in football rules of some significance' Muamba's will roll on and on through today's media. One good thing that came from his event was that everyone stopped hating each on the pitch - at least for this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!
