Absolute scum! What he did warrants a lifetime ban from the game the ****ing tosser, Joey should have got up and killed the ****er! The FA better ban him like or I'll go mental with them. The letter I will send them will be more strongly worded than the one I sent them last year! How wasn't that scum sent off! An absolute disgrace, if he stamped on me I would of got up and absolutely kicked the **** out of the scumbag, there is no place for stamping in football or in society in general, he deserves a lifetime ban and at least 10 years in jail!

Exactly! Nothing happens with the big clubs, look at Rooney's elbow last season. Yet when Barton patted Pederson on the stomach and when some Bolton player ran into Williamson's head both Joey and Willo got band after FA review. Rooney viciously assaulted some Wigan bloke yet the FA did nothing! I wrote to them accusing them of bias but I didn't get a response. Song better get banned like!

If Song doesn't get a ban then it's ridiculous. Rooney officially got dealt with so they couldn't do anything, but Song's wasn't seen and it's been highlighted everywhere. 2nd game of the season and it looks like Le Arse will be without Fabregas, Nasri, Gervinho, Song not to mention any injuries!

The way he did it really slyly really pissed me off.. it looked premeditated even and like he wasn't reacting to the challenge, he just wanted to hurt him.

Cheers :). I'll tell you something we are really fantastic at though... keeping 11 men on the pitch! Last 3 games against you, Koscielny, Diaby and Gervinho have all rightly seen red. Hopefully Song will get his punishment in the coming week too :)

It's the truth , sorry. Can't stand your club , manager or fans <ok>

Pardew said he would play Barton if he was in the right frame of mind and was willing to give 100% for the team , which he was and did.

Another pile of dross from another moaning and disillusioned Arsenal fan.

You call yourself objective when you say Gervinho's offence was worth a yellow card? <doh> You don't need half a brain to figure out that is a straight red , you just can't do what he did. Song should have been sent off as well , hope he gets a lengthy ban.

Joey Barton's was debatable and not as straightforwardly red as you claim it to be. You say he should have been sent off for provoking and stimulating another player? <laugh> What a joke! So from now on if a player just winds another player up , he should be sent off because he's provoking him? Gervinho was stupid enough to fall into the trap , he could have acted a little more selflessly and put the team first , but went for the slap.

Enjoy the Europa League next season , if that.

Okay, I shall take off my pro-Newcastle hat, and my anti-Arsenal shoes.

Gervinho raised his hands and made contact with Barton. Whatever way you look at it, soft or not, by the letter of the law that's a red card.

Joey was stupid for getting involved, he ran away from the ball to make sure Gervinho knew what he thought of it. Yes, he was too aggressive in pulling Gervinho to his feet and yes, he went down easily. But what has he done to justify the 5 match ban you feel he deserves? Sticking to the letter of the law he hasn't committed a red card offense. Pulling of shirt is a yellow, and he over-exaggerated rather than simulated.

Song deserved a red for his stamp - no place for that.

I think Gervinho went down easily but there was contact and the defender didn't touch the ball - Penalty.

Then for Barton to come in and grab Gervinho (and have a go at him for 'diving') was needless but then to go down like he had been hit with a right hook by Tyson was pathetic.

Arsenal are in trouble though, sold Clichy, selling Fabregas and Nasri and Song and Gervinho banned <laugh>

He went down far too easily in my opinion , which makes it a dive. If I push you with one finger and you fall down , wouldn't it be deemed a dive , even though I touched you?

How can you even compare Barton's reaction to Gervinho? Gervinho slapped him , Barton grabbed his shirt. Pretty huge difference there.

There's a difference between both our clubs' expectations though. Most of us would settle for just a top 10 finish and no European football. Your fans were confident of winning the title just a month ago , now you'd do very well to get top 6.

Okay, well you said in an earlier comment that there was contact on Gervinho. Admittedly, whilst minimal, you're correct in saying that. However, I do not feel that it shouldve been a penalty as I do not believe that the slightest contact in the box should automatically result in a penalty. And that goes for any team in any match. Put yourself in Tiote's shoes - if that was given as a penalty against you then you would feel extremely hard done by. I think that Gervinho has over-exaggerated the contact, just as Barton did. This puts them in the same position. Is over-exaggeration a yellow card? Debatable.

Gervinho has to go, simple as that. Wether JB goes is all down to interpretation.

Several times a week in the Premier League, you will see a player pick up an opposition player ina similar situation. Admittedly, Barton did this very aggressively. It's then up to the referee, or the FA, to decide where the line stands. I think Barton was very lucky that the referee saw it that way, but I think were I, Peter Walton (God forbid) I would have done the same.

I usually enjoy banter and discussions with opposition fans on here but some of the Arsenal players and the media's antics have riled me a bit today, so apologies for that <ok>
