Ok, I just had to post this as its very interesting. From 7amkickoff, check out the stats below for Song compared to Cesc this season. Its one for all you Song haters (of which I am not one).

I am a big fan of Song and he compares very well to Cesc, proving what a good player he is. People should start giving him more credit. If he was a little quicker he would be the complete CM / DM.

Song has been one of our best players this season along with Kosc, RVP and the young pole.

Lovely looking stats there. I am glad he has found his creative boots as it has lifted the burden from our midfield who have struggled at times to create good chances. He breaks up play very well, but is ofcourse doign this slightly further ahead of the back 4 than some would like which is why he gets under-rated sometimes.

    Great player.

I honestly cannot understand why people still criticise song and say that we need to bring in a holding midfielder. Both himself and rvp have been our best players this season and i have really seen an improvement in song's game this season, he gives away alot less fouls and especially when they opposition are breaking away his positioning and timing when he tackles is top class. And when in possession he certainly does not get enough credit, there have been countless times when he has played through balls through for the forwards, most notabley rvp's goals vs everton and liverpool and andre santos' goals against chelsea. He is 24 now and will continue to get better. His performances have allowed arteta to settle comfortabley and he has somewhat filled the gap left by wilshere.

I have immense respect for song think he has been one of our best players this season and also probably our most improved player in the last 2 years. But i know who I would have wanted to stay if given a choice

Of course velachiperoo - Cesc is one of the greatest midfielders in the world.

Song however is a very good player, very important to our team and is getting betetr and better :)

I'd liek to see Diaby playing alongside Song and Wilshere at some point when Diaby is fit and back on form.

Would give us a very athletic, strong and skillfull midfield.

I think we have lacked a certain amount of balance in midfield which Arteta has helped to change but will get better over the next season as Diaby/Wilshere return to action.

Im a big fan of Song but those 'stats' are nonsense (or just over a very selective small period of time)

Fabregas currently has 15 goals and 14 assists in all competitions this season.
He has created more than Xavi and scored more than David Villa.

Fabregas is arguably the best midfielder in europe right now.

Song is however much better than he's given credit for. He puts in more interceptionms than just about any other midfielder in the league and is also a good passer of the ball.

I'm a big Song fan. He was fantastic in the Liverpool game. Easily man of the match if you appreciate all-round midfield play.

    PAH.

Stats and damned lies. I prefer to make up my opinion based on what I see. I will NEVER believe Song is good enough for a team with Premier League and Champions League ambitions. Never !

Song is brilliant. His game keeps developing and I think he can become an out and out CM. Maybe paired with a classic DM in the future. That would give us some proper steel in midfield.

Good to see we can appreciate the less talked about qualities of our own players. Offensively Song can't see Fabregas, but, Cesc couldn't do as effectively what Alex does Week to Week. I'll be first to admit Alex Song lacks grace in his play, can't help but believe he remains undervalued as he doesn't generate headlines, is understated in interviews & was signed for peanuts as a teenager.
    Hope he renews his Contract.

i just love it when song has the ball and glides past other players, because although we don't realise it, he has great ball control and is great at dribbling. he doesn't use speed or tricks, he just walks past them.

man city - ahead of barry
man utd- ahead of scholes or giggs or carrick
Chelsea - ahead of mikel and meriles
tottenham - I would have him over parker - think they are both good though
    barca - no chance
    milan - ahead of aqualani
real - ahead of diarra or khedira (dont rate him)
bayern - not sure about there midfield anyone wanna way in on that?

cant think of many teams he wont get into and start - he will not be their best player or even their best midfielder but we would get into almost any major team

It's pathetic comments like those why some people do not bother to post on here. Its his view, stop being so condescending because all it does is start an arguement that will get petty and personal. You can debate things without having to call someone a wum then having that person call you a prick. Getting sick of this ****. Debate properly. This is a good thread and it started off properly, please do not make me close it by carrying on that pointless little spat. The OP made the thread to discuss Alex Song he does not want to read two people arguing over personal differences.

Song is a good player, but he is not a CDM. He should be played further forwards, and we should play coquelin as a holding player, just until the summer.
