Lee Johnson: Bristol City head coach praises 'maverick' midfielder Lee Tomlin please log in to view this image Lee Tomlin joined Premier League side Bournemouth from Middlesbrough for £3m fee in August 2015 Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has praised on-loan midfielder Lee Tomlin following the Robins' 4-1 win over play-off chasing Sheffield Wednesday. Tomlin, 27, scored twice to take his tally to five goals in 13 games since signing from Bournemouth in January. "Bristol City fans love a maverick, don't they?" Johnson said. "Sometimes he looks like a pub player in his frame, but as soon as he gets the ball at his feet he turns into a top-class footballer." The result lifted Bristol City to 18th in the Championship, 10 points clear of the relegation zone with five games to play. "It's been a big win as far as maintaining our status," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol. "Not just the win, but the goal difference swing with our friend [Rotherham manager] Neil Warnock having a fantastic win at MK Dons - well done, Neil. "It's important that we just keep going. We're going to need another win at least, and we've always said we want to set the tone not just for now but for next season as well." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36015188
Would quite happily offer Bournemouth 3m for Tomlin. He's the sort of signing we need to be making if we are serious about promotion! Never mind these 9m Gray signings. Let's make 3 Tomlin/Kodjia signs instead. Our spine is there in Flint, Smith and Kodjia. Let's build around it with quality. 7-8 signings need led in the summer please Lansdown. With at least 3 or 4 of them being proven quality at this level. A few more foreign players like Kodjia will do as well, the French 2nd tier will absolutely be worth another look! Just had a quick glance and caught famara diedhiou, 20 goals in that league this season and only 23....
LJ get LT to sign for us,that would be the marker for next season. 3 million and Bournemouth get their money back,we get a player that does the business week in week out. I would pay the entrance fee, just to see him play.Top class.
Tomlin DOES look like a pub player - he doesn't have an athletic frame - but he is head and shoulders above most with the ball at his feet. I agree totally with LJs comments. What a player - I hope we sign him.
Tomlin has been the difference between going down and looking like we will stay up- For that alone, he is probably worth £3m. Signing him is a must.Think we will know more once our status is confirmed. he's hardly likely to want to play League 1.
Sometimes he looks like a pub player No better judge than Junior. Anyway I missed the Wednesday game and, according to a mate, all credit should go to Junior. He picked the right players and system, he played 'through' them and only the odd 'launch'. Fair play.
1For If Junior does well I'll be as happy as you or any other City fan but it will not change my opinion that his cv didn't deserve the job of managing a Championship club. It goes without saying my opinion of him as a player, but that's history. I'll always say it how I see it - I've even said nice things on the odd occasion of Wagstaff, Williams and Fielding but I think all on here know what my overall opinion of them really is.
Unfortunately, I'm not convinced Tomlin himself sees his future at City. Naturally, it's all speculation, but I spied on his twitter (very sparse btw - even with a character limit he's a man of few words!) and on the 7th he provided links to his instagram, where he described both Aitor Karanka and Eddie Howe as 'top managers'. It may be reading too much into it, but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about him saying he's enjoying his time here, or saying all the clichéd things like 'it's a great bunch of lads' etc. I think that he wants to get back in good with Bournemouth, particularly after their pretty fantastic season, though it remains to be seen how they view him after the agro that occurred in January, which ended up with him joining us in the first place. His second choice is probably to go back to Middlesbrough, but any team in the Premiership next season would likely appeal. We're all saying 'sign him up' and 'SC/LJ, make it happen', but I'm not sure we'll have much say in the matter, unless pretty much everyone else tells him to do one. Time will tell...
I don't reckon we'll sign him up because I don't think he'll want to drop a division and take a pay cut (likely).
Not sure he's quite got it for the Prem, but a damn good championship one though that stands out in our team- Would be a good fit for all I think
