Some interesting but maybe controversial thoughts posted in today's EDP by Chris Lakey

Having gone 7 games without scoring do you think it is time we gave Pukki a rest or changed the system to maybe playing 2 up front instead?

I am a great fan of Pukki but we cannot keep on relying on him to score goals for us, (just like we did when we had players like Hucks & Holty) other players need to raise their game and step up to the plate and get their fair share goals as-welll and if (Heaven forbid) he got injured or was suspended we need to know who could take his place and score goals regularly

The thing about Pukki is that he does so much more than score goals. His intelligent running opens up chances for others to score and they have been wasting those chances.

I really think we need Pukki in the team.

Agree Dave, why would you drop your most prolific scorer?
Build the team around Pukki, the others need to up their game, and start putting the chances away.

Another thing to consider is wether to give either Sam Byram or Heise a start in place of Aarons or Lewis to help tighten up the defence. The last time we won a Premier league game Byram played instead of Aarons and kept Sterling quiet, maybe we should give him a runout and we don't know much about what Heise can do, especially as in today's press conference Farke has reported Lewis has returned from International duty with a niggly knee injury that is giving him pain.

Also with Dmrc out for 8 weeks would like to see Idah given the last 15-20 mins of a game in place of Pukki so we can see what he can do and give Pukki a rest during a game so he is refreshed for the next match

Re-Pukki, it comes down to tactics. If we intend to carry on, same tactics with the aim of creating those same chances that Pukki was gobbling up and statistically very effective at finishing. Then we must persist with Pukki. Of course, we ain't creating those chances at the moment so is that the right way?
If we are to change things, is Pukki or one of our other strikers most suited to the change? If and it's a big if, we were to change tactics and the chances were of a type Pukki is statistically weak at converting then maybe someone else gets a shot, but not before.

    Bah!

Pukki just needs more service. We're seeing maybe one likely chance a game for him which is not enough. I've noticed though that he's dragging CBs about really well, which allowed for the assist to Cantwell v Everton so therefore perhaps we'll see more Mids stepping up with goals this season compared to the Pukki show last year. In short, no we don't drop Pukki... Just feed the goat.

Thankfully, the goat is hungrier than the wolf

Hopefully the more varied tactics against Everton marks the way forward. If we get the ball forward quickly Pukki, Cantwell and Hernandez will put away enough of the chances created, supported by the FBs and McLean.

hasn’t Pukki got several assists and pre-assists in that time though?
I think he’s the most important player in our attack even when he doesn’t score. Our whole system is designed to make the most out of him.
