This in a way follows on from the thread about Zola possibly becoming our next manager..... Imagine it is now the first saturday in August 2014 and the first game of the new championship season. The R's are still in that division following Cols worst nightmare coming true as the R's lost the play off final to the Horizontal strips......Harold and his entourage fell on their swords and resigned en mass straight after that defeat......all of the loanees buggered off back to their parent clubs never to be seen in W12 again......TF appointed a young(ish) manager (insert name) and a director of football with the remit to bring on our own younger players and establish a footballing side that plays the style of football for which the R's were known and to get promotion back to the Prem by the time the new stadium is ready, If it happens sooner then so be it. Surprisingly Barton pledges his future to the club, Austin & Phillips stay put, Clint & The Pub Landlord retire and become part of the coaching staff, Remy and he who should not be named both get their dream moves for mega wonga and are never seen in Hoops again..... So what would be your starting line up for that first game? I would take a punt on the following Green Simpson, Ned, Ehmer, Harriman Henry, Barton Phillips, Hitchcock, Petrasso (Spelling) Austin A blend of youth and experience and i would like to see Eddie Howe as manager.... There are no right or wrong answers just opinions..... Thoughts?
I'm on the same wavelength as you Tramore. Only team change would be the inclusion of Faurlin as he is still talented enough to grace the Hoops.
It was all going so well until then! Harriman is a right back, same as Simpson, isn't he? Maybe Suk-Young? I'd put Sutherland into the midfield dropping Hitchcock to the bench, along with Ale in for Henry as 4ever says. Is Hoilett staying in this scenario? And please tell me the SWP has gone.
Where would we be without a bit of controversey eh Roller? SWP was last seen disappearing down the Uxbridge Road tripping over his wallet...... When you throw other names into the hat we do seem to have some resonable choices and the makings of a decent team.....
Nightmare thoughts not saying it couldn't happen I fear a massive implosion We could suffer a bout of boredom Maybe revolution is good We need to get up this season
Good thread mate. I'd replace Petrasso with Hoilett, Harriman (because he's a RB) with Traore and Henry with Faurlin. I also think we'd need a new signing in the No10 role, too early to say who. That looks a half decent side: ---------------------------Green------------------------- Simpson-------------Ned---------Ehmer-------------Traore ------------------Barton--------Faurlin------------------- Phillips------------------New Player----------------Hoilett --------------------------Austin-------------------------
I actually feel, it would be detrimental if we went up (sacrilegious, I know), we dont have the squad to survive in the Prem, and another major team overhaul, would most likely fail again (dont we ever learn). My attempt at our 2014/5 team ---------------------------Green------------------------- Simpson-------------Ned---------New Player-------------Traore ------------------Barton--------Faurlin------------------- Phillips------------------Morrison----------------Hoilett --------------------------Austin-------------------------[/QUOTE]
[/QUOTE] Good team to grow on for sure ... agree if we kept this team fit it would win the championship ... it would have to would it not?
Really good thread Tranmore, and some great responses It's got me thinking about the players I'd want to keep if we didn't go up and I've settled on the following; Goalkeeper: Rob Green [New keeper needed] Defenders Danny Simpson Michael Harriman Max Ehmer Nedum Onouha Richard Dunne (If fit) - Another 1 year deal [New CB needed] [New LB needed] Midfielders Matt Phillips Alejandro Faurlin Junior Hoillet Joey Barton Armand Traore [New Winger needed] [2 new CM's needed] Strikers Charlie Austin [2 new Strikers needed] That gives you a grand total 12 players retained for next season. They will build the core of the side. The Academy staff will be strictly informed that they need to pull their fingers out and produce us some players. To my count, they've produced 1.....who's now at Liverpool. Raheem Sterling. What exactly have they been doing for the last 10 years? Going forward, the type of signings I would look for are young, hungry players no older than 26 who have the legs to play the majority of the 46 game season. As we all know, consistency in team selection gets you results in this league.
I'd like to think there was some credibility in the likes of Ehmer, Harriman and Hitchcock coming through but having never seen any of them play for more than a few minutes I don't know how I could validate that or indeed why you think its a good idea. The QPR youth system hasn't exactly set the world on fire in recent years so what makes you think these lads could form the basis of a promotion chasing team?
It's almost a case that they are better than what we have got right now. Hitchcock should be playing a part, Ehmer too. Mo Shariff and Petrasso and the young lad that has also been loaned out ( forgotten his name but begins with P). Given some game time , must be more exciting than the current crop of 30 plus's.
Id like to see that team now!!!!! (or is that your point Tramore with HR still in charge?) Its interesting how most would still have Hoillet around, yet I think he is another player who has under performed especially as just before he came he was a world beater? (He had two one on ones v Charlton and never looked like he was going past the bloke!!
Like I said in the OP there are no right or wrong answers...... AAARGH....in a way I agree there is no way of knowing if they are good enough, but they are all now another year older, they have another season of playing senior football so they should be good enough to now step up to Championship level, if not what are they still doing at the club? I think most thought that Harriman had a decent debut at Anfield last season and he really should be playing RB now with Simpson out instead of having an aging CB playing RB/WB and looking like a fish out of water....... FYOH......must admit I would have liked to see some of the youger players given a chance but with Harold in charge it is not going to happen, he only seems interested in giving other clubs younger players playing time and I'm not sure they are any better than our own whom he has sent out on loan...... My own view is that if we do miss out on promotion this year then a longer plan needs to be put in place instead of this promotion at all costs approach that we have now.....and that is where the younger players should be included....
This season is when we should have been testing out our young players, preparing for the promotion push next year....but that was never going to happen, Harold hasn't got the wind left in him for a 2 season strategy, and if we are not careful we could be set back another year as a result. 42 points.
It would be nice to see the young guys in the team but they will be fighting for a place on the bench. Its a squad game so we need 2 players for each position. I will post my thoughts on what we need to do after the retained list is released. Its going to be a huge job, I just hope redknapp isn't here as it will set us back another 3 years.
