I have just watched yesterday's game again and I have to say it is not as bad as other threads have suggested. The passing was definitely poor and we lost our shape from time to time but Ramsey rectified the latter by bringing on Doughty for Chery which led to us creating enough chances to win the game but our ball retention must improve which I have no doubt it will once the new signings settle in. I also feel Gladwin should be used centrally as he is definitely not a winger but he is young, has just made a step up and he will improve. It's also great to see 3 lads from the academy on the bench and one getting on at a crucial stage in the game. As far as I am concerned we can only to continue to improve and I am pleased to see the end of the money grabbing players we were signing and getting back to the days of polishing a few rough diamonds from the lower leagues who actually want to play for the club. Oh and we are in round 2 of the cup.........Ramsey is clearly a genius!
Ramsey said Chery was tiring, and I have to say Doughty did not play badly at all when he came on.The change, altered the sturucture and Luongo played further forward and much better after Chery left....I have no problems with that substitution at all, actually with any of them... But we did lose our shape, we stopped pressing high, and our rather poor passing went down a couple of levels to non-existent passing...thus increasing the pressure on the defence
The change only altered the structure because Luongo had been playing too far forward. Once Doughty came on, he played alongside Henry, which is where Luongo should have been. Luongo simply played where Chery had been once the latter was hooked. If he was tiring then that's fair enough.
Nice thread OP. Have to say that Cardiff's second was the highlight in all honesty. What a strike it. Shame it meant something. Think our second was a bit fortunate not to be disallowed, so a draw was a fair result imo.
You sound like the kind of person who doesn't have an ounce of competitiveness in them. I'm sure you think it's all about the "taking part" and the "result isn't really important". Tell me, are you a teacher or a local councillor?
What's being competitive about being a football fan. I am a football fan in general and also a qpr fan. I appreciate a good goal and Cardiff's was a good goal....beautiful strike. As I say, shame it meant something. Nothing wrong with being appreciative of an opposition's goal if it warrants it, I'm not that blinkered.
Yes, Doughty was another positive. I think he will make it and hope he gets a chance. Henry is the past and I hope we don't see too much of him this season.
I think Luongo will prove to be better than either Henry or Doughty, but Faurlin should start for me. Henry is just a very ordinary footballer.
Henry allows others to play and can be useful imo. However, I think Luongo is better suited to playing further forward, although I think both Fer and Chery are better.
I'm sorry Col, but I get tired of this thing about Henry allowing others to play. What we lacked yesterday was any passing from the back - why do we have to find a place in midfield for someone who can't pass? Henry being in the team encourages the bypassing of midfield.
Fair enough mate. I think he's better than some give him credit for, but as I say, I'd be happy with Doughty and Faurlin in there. Or one of them with Luongo if he can learn to keep his position.
