Is a deep lying playmaker the type of midfielder that we need to go and get to allow Lee Cattermole to hurry and chase down opposition players or not?

I have to say when Catts is at his best he is pressing the opposition high up the pitch, obviously he is not an attacking midfielder so he will always drop back into a more defensive position but do we need someone who can pick the ball up off the defence, dictate the game and get the ball sprayed about?

The best example of a deep lying playmaker that I have seen was Pirlo in the Euro's against England, he probably never went into our box more than 3 times, probably never got anywere near it but he picked the ball up off the defence and his vision and the ability to play it long or short absolutely killed us, I aint saying lets go and get Pirlo or a player of Pirlo's ability because that will never happen but you get what type of player I am on about.

I think if we got in a player like that and a box to box midfielder it would allow Catts to really pressure teams and thats what I think we have been best at over the last 2-3years and thats closing down and winning the ball back, if we can do that then we have the creativity in Sess, McClean, Johnson, Fletcher and hopefully a box to box midfielder to punish teams. I do think in the long term we will go 4/3/3 like MoN did at Villa

    Something like this...

    --------------- Mignolet ---------------

    ?????? ---- ?????? -- O'Shea ------ Rose

    -------------- playmaker --------------
-------Cattermole --- box to box -------

    Johnson ------- Fletcher ---- Sessegnon

not so much sure who is out there who could play that playmaker role, the player I think could do it is Manuel Fernandes but he is probably now on high wages at Besiktas so hopefully the scouts are earning the money out there but as for the box to box player I have mentioned this lad before and will again he is perfect!

Im gutted we didnt go in for Manu Fernandez from that Turkish team when they were having financial problems, he would have been perfect for us, getting the ball out of our end and up the other quickly. But Fer looks a good shout aswell... but knowing MoN he wont be looking overseas :(

Pirlo and Xabi Alonso are the worlds best deep-lying playmakers.

Deluded Toon offered but Catts refused, on the grounds that the dentist bills would cost to much
