I'll start by saying we have alot of amazing qualities at the club and there are many who are envious of what we've achieved....add to that we are confident of avoiding any issues should the new financial fair play rules actually have any impact With another top player and captain about to walk out the door we have to asses how we've been operating in these barren 7 years Yes...Man City and Chelsea have changed the playing field with there excessive spending and salary options Yes...the current professional footballer seems far more disloyal But how do we keep ending up with the same situations season after season 1. Players who fail to perform until there's only 1-2 years left on their contract 2. Our inability to convince those players to stay and the money lost in transfer fees 3. New players seem to take far too long to settle and so many are just MASSIVE failures (Chamakh, Park) We came dangerously close to not making the Champions League last year and who'd not to say next season will be even tougher with Chelsea and Spurs strengthening Problems 1. Who knows what he really does behind the scence but there seems more than a coincidence how we've been running since Ivan Gazids joined. Some poor player negotiations (Cahill) and horrible and contracts...how are all the crap players on these multi year deals but anyone decent only has 1-2 years left 2. Wenger is an amazing coach but he's lost his way, his ideas and methods seems stale and he's been blind to our Achilles heel...the defence. Bould coming in might help but we have to start planning for life after Wenger You'll argue how is 7 years consecutively getting in the Champions League (despite not wining anything) "broken" but we're a club that is stuck as an almost run with no hope of improving with all that leave each season. We pay the top ticket prices in world football so we can ask for more than what we receive!
I think it is very easy to blame Gazidis but most players were on their current contracts before he arrived. We never negotiated with Cahill as Bolton susposedly rejected our bid (Wenger denies Bolton's version of events) I would argue that we pay the highest ticket prices in world football
Mr Gazidis's plan, that grand plan of his plays into the intentions of our owner. It's all about making money. Football as like all other sport is a business and our owner's US teams all do well as business ventures. As sporting entities they are also rans with a chance at the consolation prizes at best. But hey, they make money and Mr Gazidis makes money for our owner. Just look at the cash on our balance sheet. It is all very well and fine too, to carry on doing well at the business but there has to be a balance since that business is in sport and when it fails in the sport, the business may come to be affected. Our previous owners should never have sold out. In doing so they sold out on all our sporting dreams. EPL, CL, they are just dreams to us now since getting anywhere close to them tends to be a nightmare for us. So to fix our broken system we need to get rid of the breakers. Letting Mr U have a say would be a start.
