Just as the club deserved the criticism leveled at them last year they deserve our appreciation for how this transfer window has been handled this year. The RVP situation aside this has been beyond our wildest dreams and hopefully they all prove to be successes at the club We've always said we don't expect the club to compete on the 30m, 40m+ players on 200k per week but there are plenty of established, mature players available at reasonable cost and will make a difference to the team Wenger had the say on who to go for and how to negotiate part of that but others such as Gazadis (who I've been a huge critic of) and/or Silent Stan also warrant our appreciation. Without the need to sell players first almost 40m has been spent on players!!! You wouldn't have thought that in your wildest dreams come the end of the season...maybe thought we need cash from RVP first but this strategy implies that might be some small hope of him making a U-turn Just saying I believe that as much as we as fans have a right to criticize those in power they also deserve credit where credit is due and we've pulled off what looks to be one of our greatest ever transfer windows and finally we're the envy of alot of other fans in the premier league
Yes they do. This has been one of the best transfer windows in recent times, they have learnt from the mistakes of last summer and that is all you can ask for.
Agreed. The transfer window has been very positive and all I have seen is quality signings. Also Bendtner and squilachi out of the squad affirms the fact that we are not carrying deadwood anymore. I really like the way the RVP grenade has been handled and sometimes players forget that they are employed by the club and not the other way around. I think if RVP takes a long hard look at the way he has dealt with the club and fans he'll regret making the comments he has. He has burnt a few bridges but if he can still turn it around if he decides to commit to us.
Yes well said. As much as they need to be critisised when they go wrong, they should be commended when they get it right.
There is a widespread perception that last summer Arsene was really bad and this summer he "has learned" and has done it much better. I do not buy it. First it is a bit patronising - Arsene is not a school boy in need to learn obvious things. I guess it was all about availability of players. Had Cazorla deal (which as we all know now was nearly done and dusted) been not highjacked by Malaga, we would have had a different midfield last season. And we do not know how many such attempts have failed last summer. We k.ow about Mata, but I do not think it was all about a couple of extra millions. Wenger said he could write a book about last year transfer window. I believe it was an extremely difficult one and we do not know much about what really was going on. Similarly I would not jump to any conclusions about this summer, although it looks a successful one. We need to wait and see, all three players need to prove themselves in EPL.
I'm all for seeing some well deserved credit given to the club. Some of the criticism on here last season was bordering on the neurotic. I think we have learned some lessons from last summer, but I also agree that Wenger is no spring chicken who is inexperienced in the transfer market. He is one of the best and many of the factors of last summer were out of his control, the whole Fabregas and Nasri saga was really unfortunate for him and Arsenal. I never bought the argument that he should have sold them at the beginning of the window, it's his job to fight to keep his best players and he did that. If he'd sold them on day one, you can bet that people would have criticised him for not fighting to keep them. Anyway. Great as I said, it's great to see the club getting some well deserved credit, it makes a refreshing change on here. Let's hope we can take that enthusiasm and belief into the season and support the manager and the lads throughout the campaign
Very happy gooner here. Even if we finish third again this season, I'll just be glad that we actually tried to prepare for the season as last season was a shambles at the start. Considering the money that City and Chelsea have spent and Man Utd getting stronger than last season, I wouldn't be upset finishing in the top 4 but of course I'd be delighted with us winning the title. Credit to Arsenal for finally making some quality signings.
Couldn't agree more. Last few years I have dreaded the window. Always Associated it with losing players not gaining, it finally seems we have seen the error of our ways and I think it's going to put a spring in everyone's step, from the players down to the fans. Let's get behind the lads this year and it could be one to remember!
Yeah I agree completely, but as mentioned in this thread last few seasons there's been a lot of negativity creeping in, some justified, some not.
We have made some great signings with Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski. The problem is that we're still stuck with the deadwood, we struggle to get rid off them because of their wages. But this could actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise when the typical injuries resurface, we have so many options in attack now. Players like Arshavin or even Bendtner have proven they can come on and cause danger to the opposition.
Its great that the board have finally losened the purse strings with the signing of Cazorla, Giroud & Podolski (Hopefully add Sahin & Niang if RVP goes) but if we can get rid of some of the deadwood i will be over the moon. Almunia - Already Gone Squillachi, Bendtner, Park & Chamackh Gone would be great. Add in Arshavin if a good Bid comes in.
