So with both somedo and Francis off to pastures new what kind of reception do you think they will both get when they return to the valley. I`m sure if somedo hasd gone to a club in the championship barring Millwall or palacwe and our paths crosed he would of been welcombed back a hero,i`m not so sure now. Personally due to the sign for life comment my feelings are mixed re him . Francis who was heavily criricised by us probably deserves a round of applause for all his failings he was always 100%.
No problem with returning players - God knows, there's enough of them - until they decide to overdo goal celebrations/leave their foot in late to make a point on how well'ard they are/make repeated and overtly disparaging comments about the club. Maybe I'm naive, but I do believe Semedo's 'sign for life' comment was a true reflection of his feelings at that particular moment. I think the song will be rolled out again as soon as he steps back on the Valley pitch. Francis has made so little impression on me and his contribution to the CAFC cause was, IMO so slight that he barely registers a ripple in our history. He'll just be another opposition player to be beaten, another anonymous face in a different coloured shirt.
Tewkes, spot on re. Semedo and Francis... how many others fit into that Francis mould that we just don't care about when they come back?! The only departing player I'll give a bad reception to if I see him agaiin is Racon. Can understand him joining Millwall, but doesn't mean I have to like it.
Both will get a clap. Semedo more so as he wore the red shirt with pride... he deserves nothing less.
Agree re Francis, never impressed for us but had the misfortune to be in a hopeless side, so I shall neither boo nor clap him. Semedo deserves to be clapped for giving his all for the club for 4 years
Francis was our most consistent performer last season, consistently played poorly, consistently forgot to track back, consistently made ridiculous passes to the other team. Probably a big fat boo from me (afterall, he doesn't cope well when fans get on his back). Racon is also getting a nice long boo (maybe even a few rounds of bANKER bANKER! - something like that anyway). Semedo on the other hand will get a good cheer from me, but knowing Semedo's tough tackling style, I expect the cheers and claps will soon turn to boo's.
Semedo will be well supported for giving his all. Francis was booed at the valley when wearing a charlton shirt, so he has no hope of a good reception in an away shirt. I don't think he deserves to be booed, he just wasn't very good rather than lazy, but suspect he will be
I think he's going to settle in pretty well, in fact he will probably love Wednesday so much that he'd sign for life if they offer him a new contract. Oh wait...
I felt quite suspicious to be honest, well Powell responded by saying something to the effect of "That's nice of him to say, but things are far more complicated than that..." Made me wonder whether Semedo was actually in CP's plans. I wonder if the club tried to exploit Semedo's love for the club by offering him a pretty poor contract.
