    In fairness, he does explain the reason pretty well. If any striker these days went 2 years without scoring for England we would question whether they should be in the side. The strikers at our disposal back then were far better than what we have now as well. Sheringham, Ferdinand, Fowler, Sutton etc...

    easy to pick out certain dates to suit your facts,
    other than that a goal in every other game is not bad, 63 games 30 goals
    better than Rooney 79 games 29 goals

    Thing is samoholic, his 'facts' are bullshit - he scored in 94 (3 in 6) and won the Golden boot at Euro 96...England weren't involved in a qualifying campaign for Euro 96 (as hosts) and so he didn't score in friendlies...So he didn't score in 8 friendlies (not sure how many of those were starts etc.)...The lad is a tool!

    Seem to remember when he had his barren run, Venables played him up front by himself a lot. Despite the fact he was scoring 30 + goals every year for Blackburn.

    Ah my pet hate when people discuss Shearer, the old 2 years of non scoring friendlies when we were experimenting.

    Crock of ****e, when it mattered he scored. A lot. End of debate. Best English striker of his generation and possibly all time.
