I recently posted a thread as to which team we should strive to be like and the usual answers came in to play such as Swansea and Brighton. But I forgot one team in my assessment and that is Wigan, and I can remember watching them at Ashton Gate just after they arrived in the Football League. City hammered them 4-0 and I thought what the hell is this rubbish doing in the league at all, and felt it was an affront to our history when teams like that are given entry. I just watched their game vs Spurs and thought to myself how I should eat the words that I muttered on that day so long ago and perhaps we need to emulate teams like Wigan when you consider that there probably isn't a more unfashionable team in the Premier League (no offence intended). We keep hearing that City are an unfashionable team but when you consider what Wigan have achieved during their time in the league it makes our current plight a bit of a laughing stock. They have a homegrown owner plus a very good manager and have earnt the respect of their peers by doing things right and it makes me wonder why the hell we can never seem to get anything right? Sad day today at Ashton Gate to close out a despicable season and the questions must arise as to where we go from here? Wish I could answer that question with an air of confidence but quite frankly I can't.
