These are for the Premier League era only. I am copying something posted on another medium today so hope it comes out okay. I have rounded up or down to make it look easier to read. Pld. %W. %L. %D. GD Reid 161 33 40 27 -43 Mon 38 29 34 37 -5 Keane 53 28 55 17 -34 Bruce. 89 28 41 31 -19 Sbragia 23 22 52 26 -9 Wilko. 17 12 76 18 -17 Mick Mc 37 6 83 11 -49 It's interesting to see that Mon, so often the brunt of accusations of presiding over the worst regime, is in reality marginally second only to the much revered Peter Reid and if the current atmosphere of sack the manager in a year prevailed back then, he wouldn't even be in that list hardly. Reid 1.25 points per game, Mon 1.24. Bruce 1.14; Keane 1.02; Sbragia 0.91; Wilko 0.53; and poor Mick trails in at 0.27. Okay the football is not that good to watch right now but its worth thinking that despite that, and his team building isn't over by a long chalk, he is already knocking on the door of being our best EPL manager to date. It puts to bed the comment that we are worse than the 15 point lot. That season was an embarrassing failure of epic proportions. Interesting? I think so and I hope some of you all do to.
I honestly think that, other than the QPR game, we've played OK recently - and even in the QPR game we had 12 or 13 shots (8 on target I think) so if you compare where we were 5 games ago (prior to Everton) to now, we are creating a lot more - just need a little bit of luck to go our way and we'll be OK
Unless there is a sudden turnaround those stats will soon change and we will once again be a Championship Team. Bart
I'm no one for statistics, but most of those do make pretty dire reading, so what I want to see is the players we have performing to their potential and with desire, as they did in the 2nd half at Norwich..If we do can that then we will be OK.
I hope the threat of being replaced in January might be a kick up the arse to some of our underperformers. Oneill has 47 points from 38 premier league games here. Id take that now for this season no doubt about it.
The fact is he is producing the 2nd best points return, and its only by a mere fanny hair its not the best in the last 20 years, tells me we are not that badly off. With another transfer window now imminent and the chance to recruit new faces to help us pull away from our current position, I'm still full of total optimism for this season.
Ditto. Performances have improved significantly recently without getting the results a few displays have merited. A bit luck, a couple of decent results and its still possible we could get back to MONs honeymoon period when we played brilliantly. Not worried about relegation at all. Although we do need a couple of quality signings in the next two windows there are too many underperforming players at the mo. This will change.
look i dont want to replace the manager at all but trying to compare them after mon has only been here a year is a bit daft really? reaid played a 161 games to mons 38
I'm with Reg here mind. Stats can be used to cover up a multitude of sins. I have been to games in the past where we have played some really good football been by far the better side, scored some great goals and ended up on the losing side. The stats put that down as a loss. No matter what happens I will be basing my opinion of MON tenure here after the fact. On the football I have watched and not the stats.
Agreed mate. I am just trying to show its not the bleak picture some are wanting to paint. That's all.
Best thing to do is let it roll mate. I have said before we aren't getting tonked every game and are playing some canny football when they put their minds to it. What I want from MON is a bit more belief in us as an attacking force. For most of that second half we had Norwich with 11 men in their own half. Time to take advantage of other teams doubling up on McC and AJ and get someone beside them quicker, to take a short pass and not just hope they manage to get a cross in. I may be wrong but was it only Rose actually ran at them into the box? We need them all to start having a go edge of box, make the oppo have to stop them not just collect a misplaced pass. Freekicks here with Gardners sweet strike have to be the way forwrd.
Fair enough but Mon isn't only a fanny hair away from leading us to one never mind two seventh place finishes. He's a bloody bucket fanny away.
I think this will come when he has the players in he wants. Currently we have too many one paced (slow) players and cant implement the things the manager is trying to convey to them.
You are of course right in every bitter thing you say, and I bow down before you. please log in to view this image
these stats... Blackburn to QPR last season. Played 18 Won 9 Drew 3 Lost 6 Points 30 Win 50% Since QPR last season. Played 23 Won 3 Drew 14 Lost 6 Points = 23 (points is surprising, it is 5 games more though) Win % = 13% (terrible) morale of the story, stats meh....
We're 4th from bottom, 1 point abouve the drop zone with a **** December fixture list, it looks pretty bleak to me mate. And NO, i don't want MON out either, i still think he's the right man for the job, i just think that we're in a little bit more trouble than you're admitting to.
We are not in much trouble after 14 games mate and we cannot be relegated in December but we will be in trouble after 34 if we are in the same place. I just happen to believe and without any reservations, that we wont be here in another 20 games and want to put a balanced argument to some of the hysteria around at the moment. If we are in the bottom 4 or 5 come May then I feel Martin will not stay on over the summer. However, I reckon a mid table/top 10 target is still very much our goal right now.
Lies, lies and damn statistics. Stats can often tell you what you want to hear. I'm still MON in, but questions have to start to be asked unfortunately. Such is the nature of football.
