I thought he was going to be playing in Brazil last night, but turns out it was in Sweden. He was used as a late sub. He now goes to Poland so should be be no jet lag, excessive travel worries for him. Well pleased at that, it's just Clint I think who has the only really bad travel schedule, which might rule him out for Chelsea.
Poor old Sideshow Bob didn't get through it unscathed: Diego Alves going where a variety of footballers would like to have gone and punching a Chelsea defender in the face. Wayne Bridge and Anton Ferdinand will be extremely jealous. Luiz must be appalled that it was him, rather than Terry or Cole, though.
Who wants to see Terry punched in the face when this is possible...
I think Dempsey has a chance of starting, but he has the toughest travel schedule, AFAIK. To me it should be Ade and JD, but if only one can play I'd go for Ade. So far though Siggy has disappointed me, so it makes sense to play Ade and JD for me.
Can't see AVB drifting away from 4-2-3-1, so it will be Dempsey & Defoe. Siggy just seems to get lost in the formation, and has yet to come close to reproducing the form he showed in pre season, or last season with swansea/
I think I'd go for Ade and Defoe, but it's a tough choice. You can make a case the most sensible thing is to play the same team till they lose or at least fall behind. In the longer run I'd like to see Gylfi playing a bigger role, but for the moment that's trumped by the belief that Ade should be starting, and that Ade taking Dempsey's spot in the lineup could be our best team, and probably is our most dangerous. It's a risk, that's for sure, because it's a lineup that should be best against weaker teams.
Good shout RWB, it's a really difficult call. To me Ade is our best attacking player, better than Defoe or Dempsey, so to have him on the bench against Chelsea seems to make no sense to me, but yet I can see why he might end up there. I think with the tiredness that Clint will be suffering, it's the right time to start Ade and Defoe.
you can't play 4-2-3-1,with both Ade and JD playing,we would be to open playing 4-4-2.so glad AVB is the manager, not GH10
Just a thought for the midfield triumvirate - play Lennon behind Ade, with Bale and Sigurdsson on the flanks. Lennon has played in the hole to great success before, and certainly his pace can expose Terry better than Cashley, whilst Siggy hasn't looked so good in the middle thus far. It's probably a half-decent idea, but the reasoning is all wrong.
We can definitely find room for Ade and Defoe, but if one has to be benched then it should be JD. Lloris Walker Caulker Gallas JV; Lennon Sandro Dembele Bale Ade JD for me Chelsea will play quite an attacking line up I guess, so why not go for it too? Isn't Terry suspended for this one?
I would say we need Lennon on the right, as he puts pressure on the opponent when tracking back, siggy can't do that type of role. We should stick with the same team that started against Utd, same 1st half tactics as the players are settling into AVB's ideas, so i think it would be counter productive to make big changes, especially as we're playing the league leaders.
