I went to the game, enjoyed it bar the weather! Brrrr! Many thanks to Brum Fc for saving me £21 by letting me in without checking my ticket as an under 19, many thanks ! haha As for the game, we certainly deserved it. Brum were horrific first half, however Zigic certainly added loads to their game when he came on. Atmosphere shocking yet again at St Andrews, really poor. Shame. That said, they did have some VERY good opportunities to score. They just seemed very low on confidence also. We were hanging on by the end certainly, and looked tired. As for us, we played quite well first half but were nothing special either. Reo Coker + Ndaw both had very good games in the centre, and I'd love us to sign up Richie Wellens. Looks an excellent player! Upfront, Murphy played as a striker, and played much much better than LM. I think Murphy + Campbell will be the prefered partnership. I found it interesting Moshni came on and played striker, not Chopra. McCarthy has certainly gone with an 11 he knows will give him workrate. JET / Chop's etc will have to put in a massive shift in training to get into the side! Another thing I found promising, was hardly any crosses came into the box via a player hugging the touchline. Brum did have a very tidy winger on the left I think, but not a huge amount was whipped in. The full backs both played quite well, and although they did go forwards, they seemed to have been instructed to sit a bit more. I think that in turn should help the centre backs. I don't really know what else to say. I may be deluded, but I cannot see us going down at all, there are at least 3 worse sides than us in this league. McCarthy will sign a few in January, and I have faith he'll pick some half decent players too. A good start, and something to build upon !
Nice summary Westy. Like you I think with Mick in charge and a transfer window to come we should have enough about us to at least survive this year. Would love to bring DJ in but I can see QPR needing him back after his loan spell, unless (fingers crossed) they sell him to us and sign a new striker themselves. Reo, N'daw and Mohsni on permanents would be great too.
OK, I've only seen the highlights, but does anyone else think that if Zigič had been on target with those last two shots we could have been on the end of another 2-1 defeat? Go 1-0 up and then lose it at the death is the new Ipswich way and that could easily have happened on Saturday. I accept that Supermick has only just taken over, but it seems to me that Saturday was a loss for Brum rather than a win for Town. Don't want to sound negative, but I don't think we've fixed our problems yet. Here's to tomorrow and hopefully a better performance and a decent win for Town. Nighty night, people.
With 10 points after 14 games I’ve been worrying about relegation, so I’ve had a quick look at recent seasons (with statto.com you can go into any season at any point). I checked the fate of anyone with 10 points or less at the 14 game mark:- 2007-08: Only Norwich had 10 or less (it was 9) – they finished 17th. Scunthorpe went down that season having won 20 points after 14 games. 2008-09: After 14 games, Forest had 9 points and Doncaster 8. Neither went down (Doncaster finished 14th). The three that went down had 16, 15, & 13 points at this stage. 2009-10: Three teams had 10 or less after 14 games – Reading 10; us 9, Plymouth 9. Reading finished 9th! We limped to 15th, Plymouth finished second from bottom. 2010-11: Nobody had 10 or less at this stage. 2011-12: Doncaster had 9, Bristol City 9. Doncaster finished bottom, Bristol City finished 20th. So, in the last five seasons, 8 teams have had 10 or less points from 14 games. Only two have gone down. In the last 10 seasons, the highest points tally anyone has been relegated with is 52 (2007-08). The lowest 42 (on three occasions) and the average points haul for 3rd bottom is 47.
Hawky, unfortunatly I think you are correct, I was having that exact conversation this morning. We could have done without the game tonight, Mick has not had any time to work with the players since he got here, he has had to prepare for 3 games in 8 days, why did we not get him in at the start of the international break is beyond me..! Saying that there was some "throw your body in the line" that we had not seen so far this season, so a good start none the less...! COYBs.... Nice work JJ....just another 43+ points required from 96.....
I was at the Watford game and although there was an overwhelming excitement at finally beating them, it was a game between two average teams and Watford arguably lost that game rather than us winning it. I got that impression from Saturday, but a win is a win and our biggest issues for many years has been consistency, if Mick can give us that then I will be very happy, hopefully we won't go on long runs without a win as we did with both Keane and Jewell so if we are a win a couple, draw a couple and lose every now and again team then I would see that as a real improvement. I think we will lose tonight but then go and get a result at Leicester and then have a decent run over the up to and during the Christmas period
