Great result yesterday, and having watched highlights you must be well chuffed that the team 'turned up' in such emphatic style. Obviously it's annoying that the other teams around you all pushed on as well, but you got maximum points available this weekend, with a performance that lets QPR fans be positive about their own future fixtures, rather than hoping for failure from their rivals. Its been a pretty mad season for you guys, even more so now that you're going for it at the end. Even if you do go down now, and it'd take a braver man than me to bet on who'll end up in the zone, you've got a pretty good trophy cabinet of big name scalps, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. So my question to you all is, trying to put aside the current value of points (hard i know) which one is your proudest? All are epic, Arsenal for the performance, Liverpool for the sheer magic of the comeback, or Chelsea, because, well 'it's Chelsea!'
For me, it was the "sheer magic" of the Liverpool comeback.....closely followed by the feeling at the final whistle against Chelsea!! Yesterday wasn't bad either!!
Arsenal was the most satisfying because of the performance, but for sheer elation, Chelsea and Liverpool...I can't pick one...
The Chelsea win was great but it was only against 9 men (although it didn't seem like it). Against Liverpool, in truth, we only played well for 15 minutes or so but it WAS an unforgettable comeback. To me, the best was yesterday because the quality of the performance lasted 90 minutes and we ended with 6 or 7 of our players with legitimate claims to being man of the match. I'm still on a high and much more confident about our chances of PL survival.
Great come back against Liverpool but I wouldn't count them as a top team. Only a fool would. The best was yesterday in terms of a complete all round performance and result. Brilliant.
In the grand scheme of things (10 year cycles) Liverpool are a big team. At the moment they are a big team massively under performing, and i think it would be foolish to suggest this will remain the case for years to come. This season is a low point for Liverpool, not the norm. swords, your definition of top team may of course vary from mine of big team!
I agree Ashby the highlight of our season will be leaving old trafford next sunday with 3 pts. Anything less i will be disappointed.Dont think it will be 3-0 though but hopefully the team will spend 5 of the next 6 days preparing and doing their homework and we may just sneak a 1-2 win.(If Blackburn can get 3pts there then so can we)
For me I will judge it on the way my throat was feeling after each of those games. Chelsea - I could barely speak for a week! Liverpool - Could barely speak for a few days. Arsenal - Can speak fine now! All three were brilliant days, but for me there is no doubt the Chelsea game was the one. I, and many others were so so desperate to beat them that day - and the atmosphere was like I have never experienced. The sheer hell we gave their players that day really did affect them. I wont forget that day. But the Liverpool game was special - that sort of comeback is superb, but to do it to a team like Liverpool who had experienced CL winners like Gerrard and Carragher playing is even better.
The voice of sanity Col. Reading the threads since the brilliant performance yesterday, it's clear that we the supporters are perfectly suited to the team - completely inconsistent and subject to mood swings of gigantic proportions. This time last week we were going to struggle in the Championship according to some, now some ( possibly the same people) have us cruising at Old Trafford. For me yesterday was by far the performance of the season - finally played as a team, followed the plan, everybody played to their potential, with commitment. If we can play like this 4 more times this season all is fine. Good news is we don't have to win at Old Trafford, because we will win all our home games and at Chelsea. But at least we know now that we can give Urinals a game.....and anything is possible.
That is a good but tough question BC. Yesterday was fantastic, but I felt quite confident that as the game progressed that we would win. Pretty much similar as the Chelsea game, but for me it was the Liverpool result that meant so much. The reason for that is, is the pure physical feeling after the third goal. My whole body was tingling, I could feel my heart trying to beat out of my chest, you hear of fans collapsing at the end of games and now I know why. It was about twenty minutes after the final whistle that I started to feel normal again. It was a pure adrenaline rush. After performing the way we had for seventy seven minutes and being two down, it was difficult to see us getting a goal, never mind a draw, never in a month of Sundays the win. Along with our league position and previous performances, the trap-door was beckoning. It was a night of pure unadulterated excitement. Going through all those emotions in one night is an incredible experience.
Chelsea was an unforgettable experience, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. From the moment their coach arrived it was like they'd stepped into hell, I don't think I can remember seeing a team physically so affected by their environment on the day and even though it was against 9 men they would never have expected to drop a point, let alone all three. AVB's demise was written in the sand that day. They totally underestimated every aspect of the day. Liverpool was fantastic solely for the comeback, the first 77 minutes were piss-poor. Arsenal was an emphatic all-round performance, far and away the best of the season but nothing will match the Chelsea game for sheer fan-power winning a game...
All three go down in my book as fantastic results that will live long in the memory. For me though, the Liverpool result really stands out. Chelsea was brilliant, and so glad to have beaten them this year, but Liverpool just seemed to me like a significant moment, when the tide turned in our favour...a Derby County away moment from last year if you like...when I really started to believe that we could achieve our aim of staying up. Arsenal I feel wouldn't have happened without that massive confidence boosting result against Liverpool (I know that doesn't explain the Sunderland game...but just shows once again the value of fort loftus road.)
Interesting question and great read. The atmosphere at QPR v Chelsea was raw electricity coursing through the stadium but, to me, the victory felt hollow since they outplayed us with 9 men. By Judo's definition, the QPR v Liverpool games was the one that did it for me. The elation after the despair of 2 nil down was huge and I could not speak properly for five days. Arsenal was amazing but we were on top from the off and victory was not entirely surprising. For what it is worth, just did the predictor again and we survived! That was with losses against Man U, Chelsea and Man City. Allowed a draw against Tottenham but actually even a loss against them was fine on my speculation. Some one else have a go and see what you get! We need 2 wins and a couple of draws. Three wins would do it and a draw or two for safety.
Col, we will have the spirit of '92' with Diakite taking the place of Dennis Bailey. I can see the headlines now 'The Easter Sunday massacre'.
If that's the criteria then we're on the third "10 year cycle" since Liverpool have done what they claim they'll do every season in the League. They are a good Premier League Club but not one of the Super Clubs. They're around the Newkie, Villa, Sunderland level for me. That's the best I can do Canary. I am biased though as this Country I'm in is swamped by Liverpool fans and they really are annoying!
As an outsider I'd have to say Arsenal most impressive. To beat a side that had won 7 in a row isn't easy. Didn't just beat them totally outplayed them to the point where even Wenger admitted they were humbled and outplayed. For Wenger to say that you must know it's a scalp. This is a man that has accused a team of being anti-football and defensive after beating his side 3-0
