    Hello all,

My wifes brother is a dumb so and so and has to go to university in a town near to Towcester, so as a way of getting me to go and visit him in term time it was suggested that we have a family day out at Towcester racecourse.

I know the racing is dire, but can anyone tell me some interesting views on what its like as a day out. Is it worthwhile or should I just go to the pub and get drunk?

    Lets be having you!<badger>

Seems like a nice place. I've driven past it but never actually experienced the racing.

Nass, I've been a few times- but not recently. The standard has deteriorated quite badly in recent years ( some decent animals used to run there as a trial for Cheltenham- it's quite a stiff uphill finish) and entrance last year was free; i don't know if that still applies.
Personally I'd give it a miss nowadays. If you're in the area, there's a good pub/hotel called The Crossroads at nearby Weedon. Book the fourposter bedroom looking out over the dovecote and have a few bottles in the room- better than the racing!

Not a bad course! Nice views etc.. but as you say not great racing. I think a few pints in the pub will be better!

I like the fact that you had to be lured into a visit, on a promise of a trip to the races. <laugh>

Don't understand the negativity, Towcester is a cracking little course, well worth a visit. As for the standard of racing, no your not going to see any top top horse's but you should still have a good day, the top trainers still send horse's there. You get a cracking view of the racing, and it's never overcrowded. Compare that to say Newbury or Ascot, where the jumps course is in the middle of the flat track, and you can barely see a thing, or Aintree which IMO is the worst racecourse for viewing in the country. give me a day at Towcester anyway over those courses

Bettingtipster...I'd just got married when I stayed in the four poster! I didn't really notice the doves- until I was leaving; can't think why!:emoticon-0143-smirk
