I, as I am sure you all have, often moaned the lack of a decent hard working midfield over the last couple of seasons. At least in terms of defense, our usually unreliable back four has often been open due to our central defenders going missing. Certainly last year our midfield did like to stand still and wait for the opposition to do something, Reading and Burnley ran rings round our static team at home last year. Sure, bags of attacking talent but you did usually feel we were going to concede.

This year, the complete reshuffle of the team and the introduction of Mackay's focus on work-ethnic seem to be solving the missing midfield problem. Even Whittingham, who for the last how ever many years I had not seen tackle, has begun to produce defensive headers, clearances off the line and hard tackles. Perhaps our new hard working midfield is the reason for our unbeaten record on the road. Previously, I've always had our doubts about which team is going to turn up on our travels. The team that will comprehensibly stuff Leads or West Brom or the team that will falter at Doncaster or Barnsley. Or collapse on a four goal lead at Peterborough. Yet so far, three difficult away trips have yielded 5 points. Perhaps down to our midfield. (I'll give the back four and keeper some credit mind you :emoticon-0105-wink:)
