In many peoples' eyes (not mine) has gone from: 1. When he started to being outstanding and an unbelievable coup/logshot to 2. Being unreliable, inconsistant, and a calamity (if it wasn't for a couple of goals in his first few games he wouldnt even get a sniff in the side). to 3. Being a nailed on 1st teamer and one of the best in the division. Now of course I am generalising and going on the what many have stated on various LCFC forums, however, what does everyone feel? I must say that I think he is a great player with a tendancy to "freestyle" a little too much. I also think that under Faz he will improve. I also believe off the cuff (and I haven't bothered to check the stats) that our defending dip actually coincided with Didi's appointment in his coaching roll in Feb.
Sol is one of the best in his league on his day. Last season, those days didn't come often enough for me but to be fair to him, he was playing with a different partner every week and that can't be easy for a centre-back who's also adapting to the Championship. I think he will be more consistent this season and he'll have to be with the likes of St Ledger and Tunchev (who'd be a first choice pairing for most teams) breathing down his neck. Definitely if he performs like he did on Saturday then he'll do very well. Mills is also a good partner for him as well. Vocal, solid and less of a maverick like Bruma was when Sol had his bad run. In reference to the defence collapsing when Didi arrived, I don't think he was responsible and I think it was probably more Powell leaving than Didi arriving. Alternatively, you could say it strangely coincided with Bruma and Van Aanholt arriving.
Good point about Mills. Think he will be the solid dependable one allowing Bamba the bomber to get up for the corners. Great description of Sol as "maverick"!
A cracking talent - but does anyone else have the same slight reservation that I do. He appears to outperform himself on the big matches, the Man City's and the Real Madrids...but i get the feeling that if you take him to Barnsley away (no disrespect to Barnsley - i actually love visiting there place) and he wont be that bothered - unless shown on Sky?
I'm sure if Bamba wasn't up for games like Barnsley away Sven would just drop him. After all, we're not short of good centre-back's now and if he were dropped, I'm sure Bamba would soon get the message.
