Bristol City head coach Sean O'Driscoll promises to make changes for home clash with Crawley please log in to view this image Sean O'Driscoll is set to hand new loan signing Simon Gillett his first Bristol City start against Crawley. Bristol City head coach Sean O’Driscoll says he will “tweak” his starting line-up for Tuesday night’s home game against Crawley Town. When selecting a side to face Oldham Athletic on Saturday, the Midlander decided to stick with those players who had delivered a 4-2 win at Carlisle United seven days earlier. Now armed with the benefit of hindsight, O’Driscoll admits he should have made changes after all. City escaped with a 1-1 draw despite turning in one of their poorest performances of the season and the Midlander is promising to freshen his team up for the visit of Crawley. Left on the bench against the Latics, new loan signings Karleigh Osborne and Simon Gillett will come into consideration, while striker Sam Baldock, omitted for the last two matches, is pushing for a recall. In a candid interview, O’Driscoll said: “I was wondering whether to change a few things around for the Oldham game, because I felt we were a bit unbalanced at Carlisle. “But we still managed to score four goals and win the game and that influenced my thinking. In the end, we were unbalanced again and it affected us. We never played with any rhythm. “We need to play better against Crawley and I’m considering making changes to help us do that.” Talking of Gillett and Osborne, O’Driscoll said: “At least they have come in with a fresh perspective. To get players of that experience and quality to the club has to help. “When you get players like that, the others look at them and are pleased to see them. “They are all in it to try and be successful and it has to be good when you bring in quality individuals and good characters. Competition for places helps create high standards.” City will attempt to win at home in the League for the first time in 12 games. Asked to what extent a long-overdue victory at Ashton Gate would lift the mood, O’Driscoll replied: “It would definitely have an effect.” He added: “It is dead easy to concentrate on things you should have done in football and we try and focus on the positives. A home win would certainly help us in that respect. “When you are trying to win hearts and minds, it all becomes a lot easier when you are winning games and a hell of a lot more difficult when you are not.” http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/story-20030731-detail/story.html Let's hope for a good result, especially with the changes SOD mentioned.. ' City will attempt to win at home in the League for the first time in 12 games.' Bloody terrible..
“When you get players like that, the others look at them and are pleased to see them" I want players to think, they ain't having my ****ing place! Not say oh look at them they will be better than me
“When you get players like that, the others look at them and are pleased to see them" I can see what he means, if we signed Van Persie, as a player you would think "oh this is great, I reckon this player could bring out the best of my game"... However, Osbourne and Gillet are not Van Persie, and not 1 tenth of the player Van Persie is AND definitely not likely to bring out the best of our other players sadly. So as per, it was your typical nonsensical comment from a man surely running out of a$$ backward things to say.
Lets hope that the board have some spine and decide a change of manager is needed at 22.00 tonight if we either lose or get a repeat of Saturday's shambles again.
A part of me is wondering whether the reason we haven't sacked SOD is not because the board still want him at the club, but because the board cannot afford to relinquish him of his services. SOD seems like a nice guy, and I reckon his rolling contract is there to ensure that he's not wasting his time at a job where he's not wanted; a way for him to leave quickly and a way for a chairman to get rid if they don't want him around. However, the Adomah money went into thin air, and a part of me thinks that even now we cannot sustain ourselves, and that the board are happy for the club to slip until we're in a position where we can.
If results and performances continue the way they have been recently then the board will be forced to make a change. There are already calls for a boycott and the unrest and dissatisfcation is growing by the week. My Son is a die hard SOD supporter and until Saturday wouldn't hear a word against him, despite the overwhelming evidence I keep giving him. But now he is wanting O'Driscoll out. He's finally seen the light and where we are heading at a rate of knots. The board can find the money to pay him off if they really need to. With a rolling contract the day will come when he has to be paid off anyway, whether that is now or a couple of years down the road (please God no!!!!!!)
I actually have a sneak feeling we will win tonight, with odriscol being on a one years rolling contract ive a feeling they wont sack but he will leave by mutual when its due for renewal
I think I am right in saying that a rolling market means that it continually rolls for a year, meaning he could leave tomorrow and get paid for a year. Next year, he would still have a rolling year, so it doesn't matter when he gets sacked, he gets paid for a year-
If the club is still trying to push towards sustainability, sacking a manager would probably put them back, leaving the next sucker to walk into the managers office with even less money to spend. The bookies favourite is Paolo Di Canio, and I've already seen some people stirring **** by saying he was spotted in Bristol a few days ago. Can you really see PDC doing well here with his hands tied behind his back? If I remember correctly, he stated that he preferred rolling contracts because when a manager is sacked they usually only get a years compensation anyway, unless the manager tries to fight it. Manager contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on, so going for anything more than a year is pretty pointless I guess.
It will never be due for renewal Every day SOD wakes up, he has a brand new 1 year contract to greet him, unless there are termination terms and conditions in it based on performances. Knowing our board there wont be, so regardless of when he gets the push, the club still have to pay him a years money.
Good question....probably used it all up buying Bristol Rugby and paying David James wages behind Copout's back. Another scenario, if SOD is as honourable as he would have us believe, is for him to quit and not take the years severance (assuming he would even be entitled to it) for being a failure.
