So - Mr. Scally says that the Priestfield pitch is going to be relaid / have work done on it ---( the stadium announcer, yesterday, wasn't sure - but then - he only works there !! )
Lovell says that this is fantastic news - because he is looking forward to the players being able to play in the style of his choosing !........................
Well - Sunderland and Peterborough and mighty AFC Wimbledon ( and to a certain extent Coventry ), must be really pleased to have played Gills on the lush, smooth surface that has been in place --- they all really STRUGGLED to score and create more chances !!! ( Holy made 3 brilliant saves BEFORE Peterborough made it 0-1 ).
.... So, 1. Scally, 2 Lovell, 3 Players 4 The pitch --- - what type of real sod needs replacing ?

It is funny what our club hierarchy needs to do to keep some of our fans happy. Last week I was reading on twitter yet more "Scally Out" drivel due to him not investing in the team. He's now agreed to pay out £450,000 for a new hybrid pitch(that of a similar surface used at Wembley) and drainage and he's still getting slated for now not putting the money into the squad. It just seems so many have an agenda and are so blinded by hatred that they're incredibly inconsistent in their views.

I'm not sure if you was making any criticism of my post -- and, of course, you are perfectly entitled to your opinion. ( as I am ).
My point was that our pitch is perfectly playable - if you have the right sort of players !- the pitch hasn't posed any problem for opposing teams to score loads - and create even more -- so - why can't Gills ? My opinion - based on the fact that the pitch is fine for other teams, is that if we have got £450,000 to 'spare', it might be better used on buying better players - otherwise Scally may as well keep the money in his pocket ( along with all the other £Millions), and we can just keep on playing 'hoofball' ( as in the main in the last few years ).

My post wasn't aimed as a direct response alwaysright. You've showed that you can put logic towards your arguments. My post was aimed with regards towards the people who deem anything Scally does as incorrect.

With regards to your second post, I actually think it was needed to replace it. Constant hoof ball makes fans less likely to attend. You've probably seen for yourself the attendances have regularly reduced over the past few months and I feel the style of play the pitch is forcing us to play doesn't help.

I've also been made aware that another club had made a direct complaint to the EFL with regards to the conditions of our pitch and the EFL has requested we take action. We have picked up a number of muscular injuries this season having played at Priestfield and you can pump as much money into the squad as possible, but if they're playing on a surface which means they're going to spend weeks at a time on the treatment table due to something that was in our control, we might aswell have just flushed the money down the pan. I think it's sensible to replace the pitch, albeit it should have been done in the summer.

Excuse me for throwing some more logic in here but i've got an idea to...

If we allow our pitch to be come so bad, we could bring back the likes of Dick Tydeman and Ships...that way none of todays opposition players will have a clue, ensuring us 23 homes wins and a total of 69 points and well away from any relegation threat....ok i'm aware the season has already started

We at Argyle have a pitch that would grace a lot of premiership clubs. Unfortunately we don't have a first class squad to go with it. In February/March it almost looks as good as it did on the first day of the season. It allows players who can play to bring the ball down and pass it without a bobble that sends it sideways rather than forward. IF (in capitals because it's a big if) you have players who can really play and pass and so on then that is brilliant. However, if you have an opposition team who have players who can do that and are used to playing on a surface like that then you can get well and truly stuffed. A scruffy old surface with lumps and bumps is far more of a leveler if that's what you need. The blood and snot types just get bypassed by the quick slick players.

I hasten to add to this that we didn't actually pay for the pitch. It cost the best part of £750k I believe but they no sooner finished it and tendered the bill and we went into administration and they got £0.017p in the pound for their troubles. I can't be arsed to work it out but I reckon a couple of hundred would have covered it. It took us about 6/7 years before we got a squad who looked at home on it.

The pitch clearly needs attention so that is a positive, will it improve our performances at home, possibly against the lower teams. Against the better teams a new pitch will help them as much as us, against the lower half cloggers it might give us the edge.
